Early impressions? Aftee the likes off Bruce,O Neil, Poyet, Pdc, Dick and Moyes. All higher profile to some extent. He sounds like he has a bit off hunger and passion about him, even with Shorts financial restrains. How are you seeing him?
I think he really seems to get what Sunderland fans expect, and he knows what it takes to compete in this league. I'm a big fan of the way he conducts himself in interviews; he always tries to look at the positives, but isn't afraid to call a spade a spade and admit when the standards haven't been good enough. It was a strange decision not to make any subs against Derby, but after reading his explanation you got the sense that it was a calculated decision, and I could see the logic behind it. All in all, early days, but an encouraging start.
I think he's perfect for where we are right now. No nonesense, no bullshit. I'm more than happy with him. He appreciates the stature of the club and it's failings and he seems sound as ****. A steady hand when we really ****ing needed it.
I trust my gut on these things and it's telling me he's the right man for the job. On the pitch we aren't afraid to attack and I love to see that.
The first manager no one in the PL has ever heard of may well be the first manager in many a year who can finally take control of the changing room. Okay, a bit flippant there, but he's not one of the big names we've been signing as managers in the last 10 years, and he doesn't come with his own self-publicised life-story blowing out of his arse. I see us being mid-table at best at the minute. Tonight's game, you can't judge anything league-wise, playing against Bury, no disrespect intended. I look at the players we're signing, and they may well do a job, may even get us close to the play-off's if we can add a few more, but if we did somehow gain promotion this season, we'd be cannon fodder for the likes of Bournemouth, Stoke, Palace, Watford, Burnley. We've gone so far back in the last couple of years, even discussing signing ex-players like Leadbitter or Colback, even flippantly, its extraordinary! To be a so-called billionaire, to spend so much money just to regress so massively, to actively mismanage a club to this degree, and stating how much has been spent on the club since he took over, to where we are today must be humiliating! And if he's not embarrassed by his stewardship, then tells a whole new story. I seem to have digressed a bit
After Moyes literally any other manager would be more attacking but yeah I think so, considering the state we're in we look like we've got our **** together and I get the impression that Grayson is more concerned about how to create chances than he is about how to stop our opponents getting them. Not to say he's clueless about defence I think we've been fine there in the two competitive games.
We'll be able to best judge him slightly better after our next 3 toughies. As long as our heads dont drop after falling behind, show some sort of fight, and heck, even gain a point or two, I'll be happy.
Like what I see so far. He's talked well, shown passion and positivity - that's like upgrading a 2000 fiat Panda for a Bugatti Veyron over the last year!! Team seems to be gelling well - Vaughan needs a goal - snatching at things at the moment and trying a little too hard in that respect but Grayson has impressed me
He's got a different team task to all those mentioned. I think he's a good fit for our current situation
Too early to say. Some positives a win and a draw. Done well in the market, especially given restraints. Some negatives, team selections and a lack of subs to try and win the Derby game. What I am impressed with is every time he speaks. Always says the right things and leaves a good impression. Refreshing after wanting to boil my head after hearing dickhead Moyes drone on!
Where did all the money go ? £20 million Henderson, A profit on Bent and Gyan, chuck Pickford in, this debt just doesn't add up. Its not like we spent money for fun.
