After watching that display at the weekend I cant be bothered to talk about football so here is an off topic debate.

    http://www.schoolcuts.org.uk/#/

Over the next three years, to the end of this Parliament, based on National Audit Office data there will be a shortfall of £3,000,000,000, or £339 for every primary aged child and £447 for every secondary aged child in the country.

As for the north east this amounts to £120m or the cost of 3204 teachers or over 8,000 support staff.

If you want to see how your school is effected use the link above and just put your school name in and you will see the total shortfall and the per pupil figure.

These are the sorts of debates our politicians should be having, if you are concerned about this get onto your local MP and make certain they are aware of how the schools in their seats are being effected. You could ask them to place an Early Day Motion before the House of Commons as a way of registering their concerns. They can also ask for an Adjournment Debate on the subject. These debates are called on the principle of all requests go into a hat and one is drawn out for debate, so the more requests from individual MPs the more likely it is that the subject will get aired.

Schools, prisons, social care, Nhs, it's all the same, all dying. Tories are utterly destroying this country. Always maintained the Tories would **** this country up. Now it's operating on it's knees.

My school used to be in the top 10% of comps in the country. Now it's only rated as average yet it's still the top school in the town.

Make exams harder then under fund education. That's Tory logic for you. I swear despite the private education, Tory politicians still come out more stupid than the average man.

It would be interesting to have a general knowledge quiz between average worker and Tory MP.

Well you should be happy that we will be spending the % of GDP on education as we did in 1954.

How have you deduced that I'll be happy? You ****ing lefties are all the same, given an ounce of truth and you start wetting your knickers.

    Sad little man.

You insulted me first you idiot, just because I called you a name it doesn't mean I cast the first stone.

You're pathetic, is there no politics forum you can comment on? You barely make any notable comments regarding football, just one miserable pro-Corbyn rant to the next.

Of course that is true. It is also true to say you get what you pay for. The last global review had us spending a lower percentage of our GDP than the rest of Europe, North America or even than the world average. We were more on a par with the group known as the HIDP (Heavily Indebted Poor Countries), you would struggle to make this up.

Come on then tell me about all the overspending in education Tel.

You suggested I'd be happy like you've already built up your preconception of me using my comment about how when you spend too much you eventually have to face the music.

Your ideals all fall into line with that vegan idiot socialist, I'm not interested in a debate with you again, last time you were completely incapable of being objective...

Enjoy the rest of your rant <ok>

As a note it is almost impossible to get accurate figures on this so it's mostly guesswork - the disparity on what some sources say is spent compared to others is nuts. Overall it seems to come out around the 4.5% mark though sources vary from 4.1 to 5.5 (though worth noting the more recent sources are the lower ones and with good reason!)

What's it got to do with Education? I'm talking about economics not education and if you're too lazy to look at the state of our national debt then why should I be your dogs body?

We are all entitled to our opinions and you and I do have shared opinions and world views but that is what makes the world go around

Anyone on here a school teacher at any level?

Would be interesting to get an 'insiders' view to see what they think.

I'll just add that I don't know enough to comment.

    a) I'd say the deficit it more worrying than the debt

    b) The thread seemed to be about education so I don't think it's unfair to assume your comment was about overspending in schools. I appreciate now that it wasn't as specific as that!

    c) Chill

I'm chilled pal, but thanks for the patronising advice <ok>

Sorry for confusing you with my general comment about spending.
