Battulga Khaltmaa of the Democratic Party was sworn into office on July 11 after narrowly defeating Miyegombo Enkhbold of the Mongolian People’s Party on July 7. Battulga, a former artist and world champion in the martial art of sambo – a soviet martial art that translates as ‘self-defence without weapon’ – won the country’s first run-off election with 50.6 percent of the vote, narrowly defeating Miyegombo Enkhbold.
