Sam Blake Youth scholar suffered a season ending injury in todays youth cup defeat against A F C Wimbledon, He is having surgery at Kinston hospital today. Wish him all the best and a speedy recovery
Second year Scholar Sam Blake is to undergo surgery at Kingston Hospital today following the injury he sustained in last night’s FA Youth Cup tie against AFC Wimbledon. The young defender was injured after he attempted to hit the ball back into play and as he planted his foot on the ground he rolled his ankle and, as a result of that he has a fractured dislocation of his right ankle. Academy Head of Medical Services, Steve Bissix, was first on the scene and said today; “Sam was taken to Kingston Hospital last night where the ankle joint had to be put back into alignment. That procedure was carried out under strong medication and the ankle was then put in a cast and surgery is scheduled for some time today.” Steve appreciated all the help offered by AFC Wimbledon, our own medical staff and manager Darrell Clarke; “The gaffer came round to where I was treating Sam out on the pitch and was talking to him and was a very calming influence. “The Wimbledon staff were absolutely fantastic and gave us all the support we needed and the ambulance crew extremely helpful and our own staff were brilliant and I would like to thank everyone who helped us out. “It is a nasty injury and we all feel for Sam and, of course, we will look after him when he returns to Bristol. Unfortunately, his season is over but we will do all we can to help him with his rehab programme.” Everyone at Bristol Rovers sends their best wishes to Sam for a speedy recovery.
