Welcome to you all to super duper, ultra positive thread for last game of the calendar year for the Scintillating, Sensational, Stunning, Stupendous, Super Saints!!! (SSSSSS).

We welcome a surprising West Brom to St Mary’s in what promises to be a great game against two truly footballing sides (maybe I’m lying there, but keep smiling )

As usual, any negativity will be ridiculed and happy clapping is actively encouraged

So on to West Brom. Welcome to Tony Pulis and his side for their journey of 114 miles by air and 147 by road to the home of football and fortress St Mary’s (Wednesday didn’t happen – ok). West Brom sit 1 place and 1 point behind us, after two straight defeats. Let’s make that 3.

Last time at St Mary’s we played them (nearly a full calendar year ago), Saints came out 3-0 winners with a brace from JWP and a Tadic penalty (yep he can score them). This game kickstarted our European push, so let’s hope we can do that again!!!!

I think that the SSSSSS go into the game as clear, clear, clear, clear, clear favourites – WBA were looking good, but after two defeats on the trot, they have let the pack catch us again – let’s get the three points to put some breathing space between us and also to start our European assault. Nope, I have not given up on another European tour, though maybe a cup win may need to do it

On to the game…

Score and do not defend like we did against Spurs = 3 points. To quote an ex-manager It’s simple as that.

There is, as always with us, no reason to see anything other than a win. We sit 8th in the table; Two slots off EUROPEAN places. We can do this.

Saints are without Austin, Targett, Pied etc. Redmond will also start his one match ban, and after looking at the rules, I apoligise to Tom as he was right – preventing a goal scoring opportunity with no attempt to play the ball is a red…inside or outside the box. The only questionable thing is was it in or out, but seeing as Kane blasted it over full justice was served. Potential Saints target (if the gossip merchants are to be believed) Berahino is the only doubt for them (fitness), so when we win, it wont be because of a weakened side, it will be because we are GOOD

Rotation seems to be the way for us, and I am a fan – we rotate so many times that we keep all the players fit and they don’t play like strangers.

SSSSSS v Hapoel Be'er Sheva – 1-1. Could/Should have been won. We move on.
SSSSSS v Boro– 1-0. We bounced back after Euro disappointment
Stoke v SSSSSS – 0-0. Ground out a good point against a good Stoke team. Difficult to play against 10 men, unless you are Spurs…
Bournemouth v SSSSSS – 1-3. We proved we can win away. We proved we can come from behind. J-Rod back.
SSSSSS v Spurs – 1-4. Got an early goal. We move on….

Please all WBA fans, this is the Saints POSITIVE thread. 95% true, 5% tongue-in-cheek

 

Without meaning to sound negative in any way, we potentially used up our early goal in the wrong game. If ever there's a game to score early in, it's home to WBA.

If we play to our best, we win. But Pulis has taken WBA on a level this season. So we do need to be somewhere near our best.

Are we appealing Redmond's card?

 

No point, two games in four days, lets just pretend its rotation.

 

Redmond needed dropping anyway, he's been ineffectual for weeks now. With any luck, Sims will come into the squad and nail down a starting place to keep Redmond out for a while.
