Promotion

Now then Saints, I was just wondering what your opinions were regarding your chances of promotion to the Championship? Can/will you do it? I know if you win your games in hand you'll be in 2nd spot, so waddya think?

 

We'll make second but not without a few scares. Saints will look like they're blowing it, then win a couple of games as if to say 'only teasing'. I am 60 now, but will be 65 by end of season.

 

I'm still confident. It's not a proper season for a Saints fan without some tension. I've been supporting Southampton for 45 years now and can barely remember a season which went smoothly. Suffering is part of the deal.

1/4 - Peterborough v Bournemouth
2/4 - Saints v MK Dons
9/4 - Huddersfield v Peterborough and Leyton Orient v Saints
22/4 - MK Dons v Huddersfield and Leyton Orient v Peterborough
23/4 - Brighton v Saints
30/4 - Brighton v Huddersfield

 

I can remember the last couple of years in the Prem, when strangely we had a very good side, and fans actually said that it was boring without worrying about relegation. Be careful what you wish for. I agree with your sentiment: Saints are never easy on their fans, but I wouldn't swap them for another team. Imagine being ManU or Chelsea and worrying whether you'll be 1st or 2nd. How do thay stand the tension?

 

We never do it the easy way and it'll come down to the Walsall game on 7th May which will be one of the most awful games ever to watch with all the tension - worse than Sheffield United back in '08.

We need to get ourselves into 2nd before that Walsall game so that all we need to do is win (I make it sound easy!) and not have to worry about other results.

 

I want it sorted before then, so all fans that go (not me sadly) can have a carnival atmosphere. There's some interesting games for our rivals and I reckon they'll fall to the wayside one by one. A confident Saint..now there's a rare thing.

 

You should get 2nd I think.

Results have gone our way this weekend and even if 'Uddersfield win today we wil still have 3 games in hand over them.

But we have to make those games in hand count!

If we can continue winning a similar number of games per ratio to our last half a dozen we will be fine.

 

Hoadie's Gillingham have just won 2.1 and now are two off 2nd spot...sound familiar!

All I was worried about was us not being in the play offs so for us to be near auto is fukin brilliant.

Still think 2nd is ours to lose. 3 games in hand on Huddersfield and 5 points behind. The 3 games in hand are against Charlton (H), Rochdale (A) and Plymouth (A). I would like to think we would get at least 6 points out of those games in hand

 

i'd take 6 points if u offered them, dale and plymouth will be very hard places to go
