Comedian Freddie Starr has been rearrested by Scotland Yard officers working on Operation Yewtree over further allegations of sexual offences.

The entertainer answered bail on Wednesday and was arrested for a second time over additional claims.

Scotland Yard said that a man in his sixties had been "further arrested on suspicion of sexual offences in connection with further allegations made to Operation Yewtree".

The investigation is the national inquiry sparked after allegations of abuse were made against Jimmy Savile.

It has been split into three strands – allegations against Savile, those against Savile and others, and those against others.

Starr was originally arrested in November under the "Savile and others" strand, and questioned by officers working on Operation Yewtree at a Warwickshire police station. But the rearrest was under the category that is not linked to Savile. Starr has denied any wrongdoing.

Several high-profile figures have been arrested in connection with the investigation including the PR consultant Max Clifford, the radio DJ Dave Lee Travis, the former TV producer Wilfred De'Ath and the comedian Jim Davidson. They all deny any wrongdoing, and De'Ath was released without charge last month.

It has also emerged that Rolf Harris was interviewed under caution by Operation Yewtree officers last November. It is understood he was arrested last month but not charged with any offence. He has been bailed until May.

It's all crazy. Where will these investigations end? I genuinely cannot believe that so many are suspected. I cannot comprehend one person doing these things, let alone an organised racket. How do they get started on **** like that? Sickening. if guilty, they need locking up and the key throwing away.

That said, each one should be deemed innocent until proven guilty. A guy I worked with was wrongly accused and it wrecked his life. Even though they found the actual culprit and put him away, the guy who was wrongly accused went through hell because word had got out. He was hounded, had his doors and windows smashed and he was beaten twice - by people who didn't even know him. Even though he was totally cleared, people sill talked about him as though he was a paedo. Had to move away from the area altogether.
