Fair result in the end. Jerome, Tettey, Dijks and Ruddy were all brilliant, but Jerome the MotM for me. He made the first goal after stealing the ball then laying it on for Jacob to score. His alertness gave him the second goal after Darlow's mistake and deservedly so. Some great clearances in defense as well.
Just on my way home after the game and after that showing, I do feel we've 'turned a corner.' We were really 'under the cosh' for most of the 2nd half, but we held out apart from the FL (which I think should have been ours anyway!!) and apart from that, Ruddy and the defence held firm. It would have been great to win, but fairly happy with a point.
Played our get out jail card big time last night. But for Ruddy we could have lost by 2-3 goals. With a gifted goal from their goalkeeper we were very lucky to get a point. Results went against us last night. Onwards and upwards?
Explains why Basil wasn't even in the squad - "I was at the game sitting in the south stand and sitting in front of me, was Nelson Oliveria and he and an ankle brace on" Let's hope he's not going to be missing for too long, as with Lafferty our only replacement for CJ, we could struggle Edit - Ruddy pulled off some incredible saves and martin should have been pulled off, he was dreadful. MotM probably between JR and CJ and if Ruddy had played like that last Wednesday, we'd have taken all 3 points.
its nice for teams to want to come out and play football against us ..instead of put 11 men behind the ball and kick the **** out you ...fair play lads
Nice one. Said before the game I'd be happy with a draw. Sounds like we didwell again to get something from the game. We would usually crumble and lose a game like that. Like at Newcastle. 2-2 is satisfying. Keeps the unbeaten run going. Probably a moral boost getting a point and nearly beating a team that has spent silly money for this division.
Thanks for the highlights Thai. The Newcastle goals were better than it sounded on the radio broadcast and so were ours really. CJ did excellently for both and Jacob's finish was far more than the 'tap-in' described by Chris Goreham. It was a perfectly timed run and CJ did well to find him. CJ also did well to seize on the keeper's miskick while Lascalles failed to respond. I thought we were right to defend and break in the second half to try to protect the lead. Their second goal was well taken though from a tight angle. The consolation is that those above us still have to play both Newcastle (with Gayle fit again) and Brighton as well so could drop some points. At least our game with Brighton is at CR. The key is to win at Burton then Ipswich at home to keep the pressure on. Derby losing gives some breathing space, but Fulham are still threatening. Onwards and upwards hopefully.
Am I the only one thinking that this once again illustraited that we are inadequate against the top teams and Neil is taking us no where? The highlights and stats suggest we were dominated. As the home side, very much needing a win from this game, i think it is pretty dissappointing and adds to our woeful record against the top 6. Isn't it now; 0 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats? At home we have to be winning these, we sure as **** don't look like pulling off wins against good sides away. In isolation a draw against Newcastle is not a terrible result, but put into our seasons context it is poor. And looks all the worse for the gap between us and all 4 teams in the playoff places. Bah! Bah!
