Neymar wants to be recognised in his own right...

That's the theory being posited in some hack quarters to explain his exist from Barca.

He wants to get out from under the shadow of Messi and to prove that he is the best player in the World.

The criticism is that he cannot be considered the best by going to a league that has only two decent teams (PSG and Monaco), yet the hacks don't seem to realise that he's actually swapping like for like, by leaving a league that has only two decent teams.

Be that as it may, I think there is merit in the argument that he is seeking to play for a side in which his skills will be brought to the fore.

I cannot help thinking that this is the reason why the likes of Alli and Kane are at Spurs.

Sure, either player could go to a "galatico" side, such as Barca or Real, but then they'd be little more than yet another superb player among 20 or so superb players. Much better to remain at Spurs, where they can both be Billy Big Bollocks type players, and eventually move on to become legends.

What's Bale done, for example, since he moved away? Got injured, and been darkened by Ronaldo's shadow, that's what!
