Away from the debate about todays game for a minute... Is there anyone at all out there, who actually likes this car crash of an 'anthem'? I appreciate the idea of getting a new song out to build atmosphere etc. But for me it's slow, boring, too downbeat, doesn't get people pumped, and quite frankly... embarrasing (imo). Every time I've been at St Marys and it's been played, I've heard no fan around me who says they like it. I personally hope it's gone for next season, but my question is... does anyone out there actually like it?
I prefer the u2 / green day version of the saints are coming. If not, limp bizkit - take a look around will suffice.
I'm surprised they were able to get Frank out of retirement to record it. It's cheesy, it's cringeworthy, in fact it's toe curlingly awful. But I like it, it's a laugh. Every time it's played I ask the lad behind me if he's bought it for his dad yet - and his dad looks daggers at me. I may be the only person who does like it. But I'm pretty sure my record collection will stand up to scrutiny better than that of the average Kylie Fan
Yeah couldn't believe someone managed to get it into Wembley, ruined my day more than the offside goal
We absolutely hate it! It's like a death march. Embarrassing is the best I can say. I'm sure they'll stay with until of season but I pray that's it. Please.
It was a brave attempt at something, but it's a little too earnest for a football crowd. I commend Saints for trying, but no. Tbh, I prefer the odd iconic tune [not a re-write of My Way] like Chelsea and West Brom walk out to - The Liquidator, for example. They have their time in football. They fit. These tunes aren't something you can easily conjure up. They have to be felt from the soul of the football fan. Not unusual then that a lot of these iconic tunes tend to come from blues, rhythm and blues, reggae, rock, punk, and the like. They don't tend to be old ballads.! Liverpool, for example, are decidedly unusual with their anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone, and even that was a Rodgers and Hammerstein number from the musical 'Carousel', made popular when people were less cynical and more accommodating. Besides, which, Liverpool were well on their rise from nothing, so it became popular. And there was Gerry & the Pacemakers, a Liverpool group. These things came together. I liked Saints attempt at an iconic song. But circumstances have brought about a rejection of it. Which is a shame because it was an honest attempt at getting together a club song. Goodness knows we need something aside from Oh When The Saints, because I suspect even those who sing it must get bored with it.
I went to a Sporting Lisbon game a few weeks back and they played exactly the same song...the only difference being that the crowd loved it! I think they should scrap the song as it's not popular but maybe an alternative song could work
I think it's time we go back to, "Come on you Saints oh what we want is a Goal" so I can stand and shout for more, more, more!!! I've tried to find this, but without success. Bottle of wine to anyone who finds it for me and posts it up.
To be honest it has been the only football song that I can sing without clearing the Stadium! I can never remember the words anyway.
Very glad you all feel the same. I've made a point of tweeting my displeasure at the song @SouthamptonFC ever since it first played. Rumour has it, it was Fonte's parting gift.
How about a song from a local artist? (i'm not talking Howard Jones and Craig David here!). Maybe This Town's Religion by Delays or Sweet Sour by Band Of Skulls, summing up the collective experience of the Saints fanbase!
My dad despises it so much, and gets so worked up, I actually want it to stay. No other reason than that though, because it is awful.
Whatever your opinion about it (and I am fairly neutral personally), I don't understand why they don't scroll the lyrics on the big screen. It is a bit cheesy but if a fair number out of the 25000 fans were to give it some welly, it might work. Personally, I like Adventure of a lifetime, the Coldplay thing (cue lots of music criticism) which I first heard at St Marys. The lyrics are just so upbeat and appropriate. Turn your magic on... we are legends, every day.... we are diamonds taking shape. Nah, that wouldn't work. The song is great, but there are just too many Coldplay haters out there! As doubtless we are about to find out
