As we have some ageing posters, and some with health issues, I thought it might be and idea to have a dedicated thread for advice. WJ seems quite knowledgeable. Personally, Im struggling with sciatica as I do about once a year. Lower back pain and numbness in one leg. Takes weeks to go away and anything that would speed up the recovery would be a help
You need a hot water bottle and an ice pack/ bag of frozen peas. Lie flat on the floor (on your back with the ice pack/peas wrapped in a teatowel on the affected area. Bend your knees and keep your feet on the floor. Stay like that for fifteen minutes and then replace the ice with the hot water bottle for 15 mins... And repeat.... The ice reduces the swelling and the heat relaxes the muscle. Chiropracter showed me years ago and it works for me. Touch wood its been ok for a few years now.
Never had it myself, & seems like a very sensible procedure. One thing I'd add is that Ibuprofen is not just a painkiller - it reduces inflammation too. So even if you're not in pain, an Ibuprofen regime whilst you're doing Glory's routine should help. I manage my milder back seizures with Ibuprofen - until I have to go to the Docs to get the really kinky stuff (Naproxen - Ibuprofen's big brother, 30mg Cocodomol & Prozac, believe it or not!). But please ask your doc about this - he may prefer to give you something else, especially as Ibuprofen has been in the news over the last couple of days - & not in a good way! Alternative? Well, Shaks has suffered from it for years & you'd never know. And neither does he!
I get really painful shin splints when I run. Feels like pins and needles or like the trainers are too tight. Swollen ankles too Had proper running shoes fitted. re over pronation.
i get sciatica in the arm which is very rare as its normally the leg tried tons of stuff to get rid without much success but what i found that worked for me its caused by a trapped nerve in the spine heat on the point worked either the sun, hotwater bottle, or hot bath, you must take some anti flammatories slow but work
when i get it eire i have it for about 1 month fooking painful i used to sit in a chair bent over like a banana because it opens the spine joint and relieves the pain the pain is NOT where the problem is get someone to run there finger down your spine you will find the point where the nerve is trapped and put heat on it it did work for me
Mild tranqulisers relax the muscles when they spasm and lock, your doc should give you some. When rad proves to be a myth you could take em all.
Teaspoon of turmeric, honey, a bit of black pepper mixed with hot water does the trick, a shot of that everyday will get rid of it.
