On the Sheffield Wednesday thread OFH has indicated he would like somebody else to get involved with match day threads next year. I am willing to give it a go - especially as Cologne is happy to continue with the WPL prediction league. However I am not much good at formatting and loading pictures etc on here. I am aware that it can be quite time consuming so is not something that everybody has time to do. Is there anyone who is keen to take over as the main "host" of Match Day Threads. If not I will try to beg borrow and steal knowledge from some of our savvy posters on here and see if I can give it a go. One suggestion from OFH is that it is a job that can be shared so that maybe two or three people in rotation could get involved. Thoughts anyone?
Thanks Leo. I know there are a few IT wizzards among our number - so during the close season we can perhaps pick their brains as to how we can do certain techy things on threads. Looking around the different sites it's interesting to see how the threads vary quite a lot in terms of providing different facts and figures, graphics etc so there's plenty of ideas out there for anyone who wants to get involved. I hope you don't mind but I am "stickying" this so everyone has easy access to it and can volunteer, share ideas etc etc.
That is fine with me - let me make it clear also that I am more than happy to let others do the match day threads - I only put myself forward as I believe the threads have been excellent and are totally necessary to the site. I would be League 2 to OFH's Premier League in terms of production - unless your IT wizzes could teach me a trick or two
If i need to check anything out i use a site called "STATTO" its very good but there could be better ones out there
Thanks Brian but it was more the "how to get info onto the thread" than where to find it that is my problem - I am not great with IT
One thing to help writers is to write the thread as a document somewhere else and then cut it into not606. The pictures can be stored in a separate file. And I can write some. Constructing for saturday and tuesday was difficult..
I have done threads on the odd occasion. As far as the graphics go I would pinch them from mainstream football sites and store them on PhotoBucket. The Match Thread would then contain hotlinks directly to PhotoBucket. Additionally if you do use PhotoBucket they supply the HTML required for image formatting from an external site. It really does make the whole thing much easier.
I would not know a photo bucket if it hit me - will need to find out a bit more over the summer if I am going to do this
Right all - with 3 weeks to go we need to think about planning this. Hopefully Leo will be back to do this but for now it would be really good to get some ideas together. So 1) what kind of things would people like to see in the match day threads? 2) what good info sources are out there that we could usefully check and how do we get them put into threads? I see we're attracting a couple of non Watford fans on here - please feel free to contribute as all ideas are welcome. For me, whilst all the match threads created have been excellent, the real pleasure has been in reading the contributions as the drama unfolds. Looking forward to more of the same over the coming months.
KIO does wonderful match day threads on the Norwich board, he gets a lot of information and team badges from Sky Sports, simple copy and paste I believe. Mind you he then digs up loads of information from all sorts of places, previous results, players that have played for both teams, both past and present. It really makes a good read and is usually popular with opposing fans!
Sounds very much like OFH's then. But yes - when opposing fans engage in the right spirit it's great.
You're welcome too take any ideas from my match threads http://www.not606.com/threads/west-ham-vs-sunderland-official-sunderland-not606-match-thread.295235/ information sources http://www.watford-mad.co.uk/head_to_head/next/vs/match/index.shtml http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/clubs/profile.overview.html/watford http://www.oddschecker.com/ http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/referees/appointments.html http://firstrowusa.eu/ (don't forget, every single match will be streamed for free) To screenshot press PrtSC on your keyboard with image you want on the screen. Open Paint and paste, your screenshot will apear. Crop resize the image and save it. Now host it here. http://postimage.org/ copy the second link and use it in the image function on your text box dashboard. I landed a hobby writing previews for a Fanzine, now thousands of people read my work so it now 100% original, but for a message board like this you can screenshot and copy and paste team news and can get it looking smart whilst making it extremely informative. Don't for get to set up your poll. It's all easier than it looks, whoever takes it on with be a wiz by the 3rd or 4th match threads. Hope this helps improve your match day experience.
Here's a sample of KIO's thread for our friendly against Wet Sham on Tuesday! http://www.not606.com/threads/norwich-city-v-west-ham-united.306610/
Morning all. I still hope Leo is going to be back in time for the new season. However, just in case he is not, unless anyone else would like to do it I will have a crack at it for next week. I might have to call on AK and OFH for a bit of technical assistance so apologies in advance chaps if you get frantic PMs from a self confessed ludite
Thanks Dan for offering. Any help I can give is available, but my efforts were picked up as I went along. It is searching out suitable info that seems to take the time, not something to do at the last minute.
An early bit of info for you Dan. Mike Jones has been announced as the referee for Watford’s Premier League opener at Everton. The Chester-born official refereed 34 times last season in all competition, dishing out 117 yellow cards and ten red cards. The last Hornets game he took charge of was the Golden Boys’ memorable 2-0 Championship victory over Middlesbrough at Vicarage Road in April. please log in to view this image
Dave, the question is allegiance. To use the example of my former boss who is a Boro fan despite being born in Bristol, because he is a Boro fan he could, if he was a referee, theoretically take charge of a game involving City or Rovers unless they were playing Boro.
