from what i have seen and been reading i think that he will be a free transfer, as he signed a 3 and a half year deal in 2008 which looks like its expired now. http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/marcel-gecov/profil/spieler_34534.html this guy looks like a nice replacement for Etuhu should be on less wages aswell, Craven
Very much so Craven. The Club also is reportedly close to a £2.8m bid in for Kasami. Both are attack minded and play a central midfield role. Jol covering his options? And the Jeffren deal (£7.5m) is said to be back on. New on the scene Bolton are said to have had talks with the player but have offerred only £5m. Watch this space.
No Official announcement of signing Marcel Gecov yet but reports from the Czech Rep have him passing the medical with a 2 year contract with options. No transfer fee mentioned (but £2.8m has been guessed). and his wikipedia page has also been updated with this information !!!! jumping the gun?
I have also noted this this morning, SBM - so many reports that it must be a done deal even if there's been no official announcement. I saw a figure as low as £750K but even if your figure is right its a good deal if the guy is as good as everyone hopes. Interestingly, he has VERY red hair. This must mean we are now the most ginger team in the PL!
That means if we can get all the other players to dye their hair red We could have the chant of Martin Jols Red Haired Army
Great idea! Just hoping this year's third kit isn't red though... PS. Loving your mini Billy the Badger!
According to his Wiki page, he was in the 23-man team of the tournament at this summer's under-21s European finals. Sounds good. If Sidwell is the ginger Iniesta, would that make Gecov the ginger Busquets? Incidentally, the website that Craven112 linked to in the original post now has Gecov listed as a Fulham player. If Wikipedia are jumping the gun, so are other sites - this sounds more and more like it must be a done deal.
im liking this, i dont think this player will use us as a stepping stone like other players have in the past, plus what i have seen and heard hes a very good competitive player which we need really, murphy is good but he is getting on, so what position you think we will strengthen next? for me its got to be RB we need to lower the age of the wingers aswell,
BBC Sport's article says he played a blinder against England U21's in the Euros this summer. I'm pleased with this guy, looking forward to seeing him in action.
One RB and a forward and all good to go... The RB we have a case as JP has gone. For the forward we need to send AJ out potentialy.
It may be ok to say Gecov a great deal, but is he a Premiership player and not another Salcido We certainly dont want quantity for the upcoming season, but 2 proven quality additions a goal scorer, and a good fullback.
Evening all, this guy looks like a real prospect. As far as I can tell we have the following: 3 GK'S - Schwarzer, Stockdale, Somogyi. 8 DF - Baird, Kelly, Hangeland, Hughes, Senderos, Halliche, JA Riise, Briggs. 8 MF - Duff, Davies, Etuhu, Gecov, Murph's, Sidders, BH Riise, Demps. 3 ST - Zamora, Dembele, AJ. We can register 25 players over the age of 21 for the new season. From these names we only have 22 players, therefore: 1 if not 2 strikers, Demps can cover and Dembele is NOT a striker that will bag loads of goals. An all out goal scorer is what we need, although Karim Frei was asked to go out and play the number 10 role recently in the Faroe Islands so he may feature. I still do not see goals from our midfield, 1 winger needed and potentially another centre mid. I think the signing of Gecov could signal the end for Etuhu. A right back and a centre back. Established right back required, although Hughes can play there. Halliche is seems is a liability. To be totally honest, Jol wants total football that is based on attacking principles, so we have to get 1 striker and a winger and an attacking midfielder as a priority. Welcome to Gecov, good luck to the lad and let's hope he adapts to life in the prem as soon as possible. COYW tonight.
Forgot to mention, has anyone heard of any mention of Darren Gibson from United. Read a rumour about this, although on a very dodgy site. To me he is exactly what we need, knows the premiership, has a great eye for goal and can spot a pass as well.
Yes saw something on the Sunderland board - he was supposed to be going there with Brown and O'Shea, but some dispute about wages
