It will be Irvine’s penultimate game in charge of the Canaries, with new Sporting Director Stuart Webber due to appoint a new Head Coach at Colney this summer. Back in November in the reverse fixture at Carrow Road, a late winner from Ronaldo Vieira saw the Whites travel back to West Yorkshire with all three points. The Canaries had taken a first-half lead when Robbie Brady's header was deflected in off Leeds defender Luke Ayling. Pontus Jansson headed home Pablo Hernandez's corner to level the scores, before Ayling set up Chris Wood to fire the visitors in front. Kyle Lafferty slotted in to put Norwich back on terms in the 88th minute, but Vieira's 25-yard strike won it in added time. The result extended Leeds' unbeaten run to five games in all competitions, while Norwich's winless run was stretched to four matches. please log in to view this image Ronaldo Vieira celebrates his last gasp winner with team mates Kalvin Phillips and Chris Wood The Whites still have an outside chance of making this season’s play-offs but realistically if they fail to win today, like Norwich they will be destined for another year in the Championship. In team news United defender Liam Cooper serves the last of his six-match ban while midfielder Liam Bridcutt misses out with an Achilles injury. For Norwich midfielders Wes Hoolahan and Alex Tettey are set to miss out and keeper Michael McGovern is on compassionate leave. Centre-back Timm Klose has recovered from a back injury and is available for selection once again, but with the Canaries having won their last two games interim boss Alan Irvine may be reluctant to change his starting eleven. please log in to view this image City centre back Timm Klose is back and available for selection A capacity crowd is expected at Elland Road for this one so City can expect an intimidating welcome from the home fans, but with the pressure off and a certain sense of freedom it would be no surprise if the Canaries came way with at least a share of the spoils, as they attempt to derail United’s push for a shot at the Championship play-offs. please log in to view this image BBC Match Preview Here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39676169 Leeds haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their last nine matches against the Canaries in all competitions - the last goalkeeper to do so was Tony Warner in August 2006. Norwich won on their last league visit to Elland Road in April 2015 - they've never won back to back away league games at Leeds. Leeds could lose five league games in a calendar month for the first time since April 2015. Chris Wood has a had a hand in more goals than any other Championship player this season (29 - 25 goals, 4 assists). The Whites have kept 10 clean sheets in their last 13 league matches at Elland Road. The Canaries are looking to win back to back away league games for the first time since April 2015, a run which included a victory at Elland Road. please log in to view this image Sky Sports Match Preview Here: http://www.skysports.com/football/leeds-vs-norwich/358646 Garry Monk’s Match Preview please log in to view this image Garry Monk previews this afternoon's match https://www.leedsunited.com/video/86228/freeview-interview-garry-monk-pre-norwich “We have been disappointed with our recent period, but the message this week has been that we still have a chance.” “Whilst being able to reach the Play-Offs is now out of our hands, we still have a chance and we have to fight with everything we have in these last two games." “Elland Road is sold out on Saturday, we’ll have a full house and it has been a real fortress for us this season." “It is important for us to finish at Elland Road with that mentality this weekend and in football anything can happen, we are all determined to give a good account of ourselves." “We want to give ourselves the opportunity to take the season right until the last game, we don’t want to finish with negative thoughts in our head." “I don’t think anyone at the start of the season would have envisaged that we would still be fighting for a Play-Off spot with two games to go." “Overall this group has done so well this season and we want to finish these final two games in a strong way, we want to finish on our terms with whatever that brings." “Strange things can happen in football, we have to take care of our games, starting with Norwich on Saturday.” Alan Irvine’s Match Preview Alan Irvine takes charge of his penultimate game as Canaries' boss "We had a very good result and performance in our last away game against the team who were top of the home form league since January." "Now we're going to the team who are second in the table! Clearly it's a difficult place to go but if we perform at the level we did at Preston there's no reason why we can't get a good result." "We've had three excellent results in the last four games and we're hoping we can achieve some consistency in the last couple of games. If we can do that, then at least it's a nice end to the season. "Obviously there's a lot at stake for them so there will be a big crowd there and that big crowd will be something that will help them or become difficult for them if we play well. "We just need to put in a good performance and hopefully get the result that we want." "They've [Leeds] had a very good season overall, they can be pleased with what they've done." "They've hit a sticky patch at probably the worst moment for them but they're not out of it yet. If they win their remaining two games, it puts pressure on the teams above." "Chris Wood has scored a lot of goals and created a lot of chances. He's a very good player, he scores all of his goals in the same area." "I have no doubt that they will come out and attack us and be very positive but we've got to make sure we can stand up to that and then use the ball well when we're in possession." Leeds United's predecessor team Leeds City were formed in 1904 and were elected to the Football League in 1905. Leeds City were forcibly disbanded and forced to sell off all their players by The Football League in 1919 in response to allegations of illegal payments to players during the First World War, shortly after the club re-formed as Leeds United. On 31 May 1920 Leeds United were elected to the Football League and in 1924 won the Second Division title. In 1961 Don Revie was appointed player/manager of Leeds United and immediately implemented a youth policy and changed the club strip to all white in order to emulate the great Real Madrid. Revie was to subsequently preside over Leeds’ most successful era. please log in to view this image Don Revie, Billy Bremner and the FA Cup Under Revie, Leeds now once again a Second Division club, gained promotion to the First Division in 1963–64. In his 13 years in charge Revie guided Leeds to two Football League First Division titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, one Football League Second Division title and one Charity Shield. He also guided them to three more FA Cup Finals, two more FA Cup Semi-Finals, one more Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Semi-Final, one European Cup Winners' Cup Final and one European Cup Semi-Final. The team also finished second in the Football League First Division five times, third once and fourth twice. Sometimes criticised for the physical and negative approach of his teams, Revie and his charges were often referred to as ‘Dirty Leeds’ by fans of other clubs. He was also criticised as money-obsessed when he resigned as England manager in 1977 to take charge of the United Arab Emirates national side, there were also unproven allegations of bribery and financial misconduct which tarnished his reputation. Revie though is still highly regarded in Leeds and has a stand named after him at Elland Road as well as a statue outside the ground. please log in to view this image Revie's statue Today Leeds United are known simply as 'United' or 'Whites' after their present club colours. The club took its previous nickname of the 'Peacocks' from the public house that once stood opposite Elland Road, after having been known as the Citizens during the days of Leeds City. Think we have already resigned that fact that we are not going anywhere this season. Need to win both our games, and results elsewhere need to go our way too. In the past 3 weeks ALL results have gone against us. Would be nice to take it to the final day. Where there's hope n all that.
Afternoon Guys, sorry thread was posted a bit late this week but I was busy arguing politics with Dunc on another thread Going for a 2-1 win for City today
What has Maddison got to do to get a f**king chance!? Nothing to play for, if it's not getting picked to start games like this to gain experience, then when!? Driving me nuts! He looks different class everytime he's on the pitch. Look at Leeds today. Young Ronaldo Vieira starting again today. That's how they keep producing future Premiership quality players! Letting them play and learn.
I'm sure he could play CM if he had a holding midfielder next to him. He's so good in the ball, I think he would just start pulling strings from deep.
So we're going to "give the youth a chance" by playing them out of position away at a strong Leeds side?
