So we reach the halfway stage of the season with the visit of the boys from Elland Road for the Boxing Day treat. Possibly the best footballing day of the calender. Leeds are on decent form this season, must be after all they have kept the same manager since the start of the season therefore Mr Monk must be doing something right as the Peacocks lie 5th in the division.
Off the field seems still seem to be a little bit up and down with Massimo now suspended again for apparently wrong doings.
They have made some decent signings Ayling, Roofe and Bartley who is on loan from Swansea, they have 75 year old Rob Green between the sticks still makes the occasional ricket but not a bad keeper.
They have lost the last two on the road at Brighton and Liverpool but appear to have been better defensively then they were last season. Chris Wood is the main man up front but missed the Brentford victory with an injury.
Five away league wins this season, so they are travelling well, this will be an interesting game.
Beckford and Doyle both free of suspension will they both be in the squad following their disagreement last time they played, will Wright play, if not it would suggest he is on his way to another club in January, Bristol City have been mentioned. No news on Gallagher and Welsh although both were on the Christmas do in Dublin on Sunday.
    Looking forward to this one.

Fair play to Leeds took their chances we didn't also managed to keep eleven on the pitch which we didn't, not saying we would have got anything if we kept a full complement but we will never know.
21200 saw a better Leeds side than they have had for quite some time take the points in a 4-1 victory at the home of football, an interesting first period gave way to an avalanche of goals with four in sixteen minutes.
Leeds took the lead from what I thought was a very soft free kick, Dallas curled a cross to the back post, the mammoth Jansson won the ball headed back across go and Roofe headed in from an inch. The second also thought this was a soft free kick but the move that cut through North End's defence was excellent and Sacko buried it into the top right hanb corner.
Withina couple of minutes North End had reduced the arrears when Vermijl buried home one after good work by Makienok and Browne.
United restored their two goal cushion when Doukara escaped down the left advanced towards goal unleashed a shot which Maxwell only half saved the ball squirmed towards the goal and was cleared by Cunningham or so he thought, however liner said it was over the lime and 3-1 it was. Oddly apart from that neither keeper had had a lot to do.
With memories of the Elland Road comeback a few years ago North End started well in the second half possibly could have had a penalty after a dreadful Johnson free kick, ball seemed to strike a hand not given by the abysmal Mr Simpson. North End well on top missed two chances in the space of ten seconds, Browne should probably have scored with the second one.
However momentum started to wane and Dallas forced a straightforward save from Maxwell at the other end.
Enter Beckford and Hugill within five minutes it was exit stage right for Beckford. Clattered by Bartley going for a header the two player fell to earth also bringing down Ayling at the same time apparently Beckford landed one on the Leeds full back and after some confusion it was first use of the showers for Jermaine. Only consolation is that this time he hit an opponent.
Sod all chance after that although Browne and Doyle could possibly have done better, but we were always up against it and following a poor kick from Maxwell, Leeds lobbed in a fourth with Hernandez scoring easily at the back post.
So move onto the Owls on Saturday another tough task, as for Beckford managed 15 minutes football in his last two games and got seven games suspension add to that his injury record since we signed him permanentlyhas been poor, P45 Jermaine, it's coming.

Preston North End 1 Leeds United 4 Att 21200

    Preston manager Simon Grayson:

"It was inconsistent from the referee but Jermaine Beckford has to react in a better way than he has done.

"I think he got a nasty knee in the back but you can't react and that took the wind out of our sails. You don't need to be going down to 10 men too many times in this division.

"It's something that Jermaine has to accept, he will get a four-match ban and we'll lose him.

"I think sometimes in the heat of the moment we do things we shouldn't do but you'd like to think the older players can cope with it."

Leeds United head coach Garry Monk:

"They play quite a direct game. We accepted that really well and went toe to toe.

"We managed to get ourselves some good goals, the only disappointment being their goal. That was the only time where I thought we lost concentration.

"It was a good reaction after that, though, to regain the two-goal lead. I thought it was a very good all-round performance against a team that are doing very well lately.

"It's great to be winning games. We are fighting hard to improve and we are learning all the time. But it's step by step - our fight is for the three points ahead of us."

Got to and it to Mr Monk, he has restored some pride in LU. I think LU will be swapping places with Swansea. As for NE, maintaining Championship position is all we can hope for now. There does seem to be some dead wood in the team and Beckford is the prime example. The two Irish lads may bring some spark into the team but the Morecombe and Carlisle lads are a gamble. It may be that Moyes will be looking for another job at the end of the season???
