As I said before it's a hard choice I'm just pleased both played for our club. The hard thing for me is to separate Phillips Premier time and championship time in my head. Defoe would be scoring tonnes and giving a lot of great memories if we played in the championship.
I do think that JD and KP were two different forwards, Defoe is more of a poacher/in the area sort of forward. Whereas I think KP was a forward that liked to get it deep then run at players and lash it in from anywhere. Both amazing players in my eyes but I think Defoe is just shading it as KP had a very good team around him. Oh and because we swapped him for Altidore (Sale Of The Century).
SKP for me was the greatest player in my lifetime supporting Sunderland, you could argue that Defoe has been the most important player for us but for sheer pride in one of our own, it's Super Kevin Philips. Don't forget he won the golden boot scoring 30 goals in a season, I don't think that's been equalled since has it?
The European golden boot, yeah it has. Henry won it two years in a row at Arsenal and Ronaldo won it with Man Utd. Kevin Phillips is the only Englishman to have ever won it and he was the first Premier league player to win it. Phillips definitely captured the heart, his all round game was on another level, for us. He could drop deep, he was amazing in the air, especially for the size of the lad and he could smash them in from anywhere. Both great players, but it's SKP, for me.
and Johnston n Summerbee in a fairly successful team. I would never ever knock SKP but would be inclined to agree BoD JD is better.
Go for it, mate. I can't get past the keeper . Sorensen or Gordon. Probably have to be Tommy like, but for quality it would be Gordon, easily.
