Jagielka linked, according to the Echo. Don't know how I feel about that. He might do a job for us in the short term but on the other hand it could just be Moyes surrounding himself with familiar faces again.

Good footballing head on him. I'd be pleased with that.

I won't be having a bet on him turning up though.

Is he an improvement on what we have?Absolutely.

Is he too old to sign. Probably

Swap deal+ cash for Kone? Most probably

He's a decent player. The article suggests that Kone might be going in the other direction and that, I think, would be a backwards step. If its true it concerns me slightly that Moyes seems incapable of finding sources other than Man Utd and Everton to sign players from

You would have more chance betting on me turning up for a plate of fish and chips at your place for tea tonight.. ;)

Can't see this happening but for me he would improve our defence like and he is a pretty solid performer..

He may end up here in a bit of wheeler-dealer move for Kone to raise money for the longer term of not overspending within FFP. Him and McCarthy and send one of our loans back could cover it.

Economically, that might make sense. In footballing terms, and in terms of the short-term aim of not being relegated, I don't see the sense in letting our best central defender, who is probably at or approaching his peak, go in order to bring in one who's career is winding down. If we want to stay up we'd do better with Jagielka alongside Kone than alongside the erratic Djilobodji or the arthritic John O'Shea.

Under ideal circumstances totally understandable, but we are back to cutting our coast to suit the cloth again.

Well, clearly. But surely in the long term, staying in the Premiership is better financially than getting the wages of one relatively high earner off the books and/or getting a few quid for Kone. So if, as the Echo's article suggests, this is what the club are going to do its another nonsensical move, not dissimilar to selling Defoe.

Balancing one against the other, if we can get a seasoned defender and midfielder as replacement for Kone and send either Denyer or Januzaj back we could possibly add a third player on loan. Sorry state but it could give us breathing space - again.

Very similar to O'Shea in that he'd command the defence.

Different in that he's not a completely passed it sack of ****.

I'm with you on first and last points but I recall signing Steve Bould who was a short term gem.
Moyes did say he was looking in the short and long term for new players - so short term acquisition and his experience will rub off in the squad IF he wants to come - The Moyes link with him will be strong as he got his chance in the big time from Sheff Utd with DM
So I'm just going with blind KTF and a cup we in tonight -<cheers>

I was thinking he was too old then I considered that he is 18 months younger than John O'Shea and was probably always a better player. It is an improvement so why not really provided the figures are good.

40 caps for England and still playing for Everton, yes from me.

Maybe the on field leader we're missing?

He's a good player but I don't see swapping him for Kone as strengthening us. We'd want both together, surely. If they'd accept Djilobodji then it might be worth it.

I think he'd be a great signing. Somebody who can install some confidence in one the dodgy partners he'd be paired with. He's still got a few premier league seasons in him yet. We could finally get shot of John O'Shea too.
