You misunderstand. I'm not saying Leicester were lucky, I'm saying Ranieri was lucky. He inherited a side that had finished the previous season like a train, had virtually no injuries to contend with, and just sent the same side out week after week playing the same game, which no one seemed to work out how to stop.
Ok, fair enough. That previous season was almost as impressive as they looked absolutely doomed. Much to our despair (as fellow relegation candidates that season) they went on an incredible run.
It was apparently the players that got Ranieri sacked. Merson isn't happy with them and doesn't hold back ... Couldn't care less about Leicester, but if it pisses that sanctimonious w@nker Lineker off its all good.
Yeah if only it was so easy to win the PL with average players, he must of used up all his luck in one season!
What he did do was change from three at the back to 4-4-2 and won the premier league by ten points. An incredible achievement.
Only lost three games all season, only three teams in modern football history have done better, that's some luck...
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39085298 Even having just been sacked he still has the decency to stop outside his house for photos with fans...a thoroughly decent bloke who's sacking represents a lot of what is wrong with football. Shortsightedness and disloyalty have won through. Out of the relegation zone and in the last 16 of the Champion League...unbelievable. Dare I say it...I agree with this guy... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39080073
I understand your sentiment stroller, and there is always an element of luck. But just because I have the same ingredients as Gordon Ramsey doesn't mean I can create the same dish. Ranieri still had to manage this squad of players through a whole season, maintain the form and approach through that season. Unfortunately the dressing room of average players that acted as a team last year have got mis-led that they are fantastic individuals who won the league - they truly have gone from champs to chumps! And then turn around and blame their manager when criticised and get him sacked. There's no doubt there is a serious problem in the dressing room - and player power has won out. Sickening state of sell-out football.
I have no idea what he is like in private life, but in public Ranieri comes across as a thoroughly decent man - charismatic, honest, funny and dignified. I can't remember him slagging off refs, the opposition or his own players in press conferences. He is the major reason so many of us were behind Leicester last season, along with sticking it to the mega rich clubs. Can you imagine them getting the same groundswell of good feelings with the scowling, paranoiac, permanently a second from violence Pearson in charge? A sad episode for common decency. If the owners wanted him to stop running the team they could have done it in a much more graceful way than this.
Beautiful gracious and very gentlemanly statement..Got to like the man.....who are they getting in to replace him....No one on the horizon yet!
A very dignified and gracious statement. Whatever his managerial abilities, he seems like a very decent man and he didn't deserve to be treated the way he has been. Hope they go down.
if it's right that Morgan was one of the instigators in getting Rainieri the boot then I give up. Fat, a liability and probably not even Championship quality, has the gall ffs
I'm still wondering about the logic of this. Chairman to players - "Tell me, is the problem with you or with the manager?" Players to chairman - "It's the manager, not us" What did the chairman expect them to say if the players think someone might lose their job? Turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
