Is Rooney a Man Utd legend?

  1. Yes - might even be a statue of him one day

  2. No - he has done his job and nothing more

  3. Meh - don't care and I'm only voting to join in the crowd

I don't understand how any united fan can consider him as anything but a legend.

His goals/assists and work rate have helped us win so many trophies.

He is a Man Utd Legend without doubt.

I wouldn't put him in the Ian Rush bracket, but a legend for Utd for sure.

Well he has 2 threads dedicated to his legendary status whereas Rush has none so you're clearly wrong.

Who knows we may even have 3!!

Rooney will score 446. Even when he's not playing. That's just how great he is <ok>

Absolute legend - but I still resent the fu**er for agitating for a move away..................twice. For me, that alone will tarnish his legacy.

Does the fact he had a Hair Transplant tarnish his status?

I'd say it probably does when you had the likes of Fabio in your team. Lovely hair.

You seem to forget he's scored the most goals for England and therefore must be an England legend also. Was Rush an England legend? No, he couldn't even get a game for them. I rest my case m'lawd!

He also left and came back, and this didn't tarnish his reputation. Funny that.

The archetypal goal hanging No.9, and brilliant with it, no wonder he scored so many!
    Rooney, and Charlton, weren't that.

Dennis Law was but wasn't around long enough.
He played for other clubs with an untarnished reputation too funnily enough.

The only thing for me stopping him from being a legend is to ask to be sold twice.

Was a great player until SAF left then he dropped off quite a bit.
So for me 80% legend but not in the same bracket as Best or Charlton

Ah, but would he get ahead of Dalglish, Hunt, Fowler and Suarez in an all time Liverpool 11?

That says it all. If you're Treble of course...

But not the 1st XI despite being the record scorer.

    So something's wrong. Something...

An 18-25 year old Wayne Rooney would be very close to getting in a Man Utd all time 11, he would certainly be on the premises in that debate.

Let's not forget how good Rooney was from 06-09, he maybe didn't get as many goals then, as he was playing second fiddle to Ronaldo, but the work he did was vital to the team, and vital to Ronaldo getting space to cause damage. I remember some of the games Rooney missed back then, and how the team struggled to tick without him.

Yeah you could say he played 2nd fiddle to Ronaldo, but we are talking about a player who is gonna be remembered as one of the best players to ever play the game once he retires.

When Ronaldo left, in 09-10 Rooney was promoted to the talisman so to speak, and got 34 goals himself that year. Then again in 11-12 he had another very prolific season of 34 goals.

As a person I'm not Rooneys biggest fan, due to him holding the club to ransom twice, and il be the first to say he has been absolute dross these last few seasons. However in terms of his ability in his prime and his achievements he is up there with the best players we've had play at the club. So he most certainly is a legend:biggrin:

So all the distraction of him having to break Charlton's record has now been replaced by all the distraction of whether he's leaving (and where) now that he's broken the record <laugh> fckin hell. At least he himself has rubbished the idea but it's like a circus.

It's just the press making an assumption, as usual. It's got to be bollocks.

If he left immediately after getting the record it would be ****ing weird by anyone's standards. And it would definitely tarnish his reputation!!

He'll leave in the summer. No big issue with that.

We'll buy a left back to replace him, some bloke called Griezmann.

Going forward the club will have to look at Rooney's position in purely cynical terms. Forget all the plaudits, the records etc - that is now history of it's own, but the hard facts are that the terms of his present deal are not sustainable - no club can afford to pay any player his astronomical wages when he isn't playing regular first-team football - and making a fantastic contribution when he does (who would begrudge Ole a penny of his wages). If he wants to stay (his stated option) then I can see the club offering him a new deal but on considerably reduced wages to reflect his new position in the club structure.

That will be the crunch. If we offer him, say, half his wages and he is prepared to accept it - fine, I'm sure we would all be happy with that. But with the Chinese lurking in the background offering mega-bucks to counter that offer it would be a difficult position for the player especially when his missus could also earn godzillions selling her crap clothing to the Chinese. Poor mans VB so to speak.
