We followed the earlier recommendations and visited the Lines Of Thought exhibition at Hull University - it was well worth the effort. As an added bonus we were given an individual introduction to the exhibition by one of the PhD students currently studying in the Art History department. If you do go it's worth allowing some additional time to look at the permanent exhibition in the next room - some brilliant stuff including stunning sculptures by Jacob Epstein.
Went down to see the Blade today, very impressive, also Jameson St looking good now. Went for a pint, looked across the bar and saw someone I hadn't seen for 25 years, ended up having a very pleasant time catching up.
No, it's in the Brynmor Jones Library - on the ground floor, just turn left at the main entrance. Check on the Web before you go though, there are one or two dates when it will be closed.
Will COC17 bypass our club completely? We all know the venomous hostility of the current owners of our club to their landlords, but surely this doesn't extend to the entire population of the city and the whole concept of what COC is supposed to represent. Does it...?
Forgotten town sung by the Christians (written by Henry priestman from hull) is being recorded by mighty & the moon! Video shoot on marina tomorrow! Look forward to hearing it!
I was only home for the first two days and nights of CoC but what an awesome start, I was already proud to be a Hull lad but this really hit the button. By all reports things are continuing very well. My missus and daughter are going to the Uni and Ferens today, bloody jealous is all I can say. Great start to the year. Still can't over how many people are negative about it? The Blade looks amazing. Some people just don't get it do they?
Link? Everyone knows they have issues with the Council, and to a lesser extent the fans who they seem to believe should have supported them in their 'fight' with their council over ground ownership. I'm not sure they 'hate Hull'. The old man shoots from the hip and may finally be learning to button it as it gets him into hot water. He seems to have too many off the cuff opinions and be incapable of communicating his vision in a coherent way. The son who has none of the language limitations of his dad but appears to be very wary of saying anything in public. If they really hated Hull, there's nothing to stop them relocating their marine diesel generator business somewhere else here or abroad if they hate it here so much. The old man seems fond of grand gestures many of them benefitting the people of Hull, but seems to have a real blind spot about the Council. Perhaps he thinks that the COC is about rewarding the council or recognising what a great job they are doing ? A we saw with the El Ahly friendly, talk is cheap. Most prominent local businesses will step up to the plate like Siemens have already, local celebs from Courtenay to Cosey Fanny Tutti likewise as anyone with a local connection recognises the worth and the spirit of the event. I don't know what the club could /should do: a prominent dedicated advertising hoarding (always visible on tv) mentioning Hull City AFC being proud to be part of the COC? Maybe a Day where the club open its doors to the fans, like we used to have at BP or even at the KC under Sir Adam? Maybe some COC advertising on tracksuits/training gear like Hull University have? Maybe some advertising on the electronic screens? Maybe holding some events in the KCOM celebrating City's past etc? A chance to repair some bridges and look good by doing it ....if the will is there.
Some of us on here tried to do something for COC 2017. The club where supportive to a point. The biggest let down was the FA. Saying yes and then not bothering to respond.
The sports clubs in Hull are not going to be involved with COC and haven't been asked to be involved. Martin Green didn't want sports to be included - only in an arts related way apparently!
We've had that crowd noise installation at Zebedee's Yard and there will be Les Motherby's Hull City Kits (which has secured funding). There is an opportunity for the club to get involved somehow and generate goodwill.
As City Man says, one of the launch events was City related and there's a City kit exhibition taking place, it's just stuff that involves the club directly that they've avoided (they weren't going to, there was going to be a CoC 3rd kit and some other stuff that was binned). Hull KR were a CoC bid partner and had a CoC kit.
Fingers crossed we'll get some new owners in with a less ****ish attitude sooner rather than later so the club can participate in this massive celebratory event.
