Does anyone else think Harry's natural position is in midfield? Some of his runs into the box today were brilliant. His dribbling ability is excellent for such a big lad and he gets straight into the penalty box making it hard for defenders to tackle him. His shooting from distance today was also very good and he is great at using his size and strength to terrorize defenders. I know he is also a good central defender, but he's sometimes a bit clumsy in the tackle against nippy PL players and he certainly isn't a fullback.
I think he can do both, and in a back 3 he's fine at CB. In a back 4 he's more suited to playing midfield as it gives him more freedom, as one of 2 CBs he has more responsibilty to stay deep. Brilliant game today, he was the best player on the pitch for either team.
He looks really brilliant on the right of the back three. It's perhaps a reflection on our attacking players, that whenever a defender shows some skill going forward we're always talking about playing them further up the pitch.
I like him best in defence. He carries that extra unexpected threat when he carries the ball out of defence. The way he carries the ball is brilliant for creating overloads in attacking areas.
The moment late on when Maguire rumbled forwards and Luiz literally leapt out of his way was glorious. The massive Brazilian fadge.
Whether we stay up or relegate that boy is going to make us rich in the summer. And he's definitely a defender.
He's very good with the ball at the feet, but he's definitely a defender. There were a couple of times today when he got a bit too overconfident and lost the ball or was caught in possession, but as a centre half it's good to have little surprises up your sleeve.
I think Sheff United sometimes used him as a striker. I wouldn't mind if Silva tried him further forward when the situation allows, just to see how he deals with it.
Exactly that, but Escab would hold out for £10 million... and to think that previous management at this club never really fancied him.... go figure!!!
He needs to do a thundering forward run, straight through 2 or 3 of the enemy then hit the ball like a rocket to score a blinder. He's the football Lomu.
With the incoming, or reported incoming I'm genuinely hoping MS is here for way beyond the 6 months. Harry has to be an integral part of his plans and as such needs pinning down ASAP.
They were waxing lyrical about him on MOTD. Best performance by a centre half in the PL this season according to Danny Murphy. The stats they showed in support of it were pretty incredible too. I love how he's always been so under the radar; after the Man U game some Twitter account made a joke about him briefly forgetting that he was Harry Maguire and going on a surging run. Which of course we know he does most weeks. Anyway, it's never a bad time for this:
