well.... much of it was well merited unfortunately the stuff that was OTT was down really to him subbing golden boy lineker

It was funny though the press SAVAGED robson before 1990 and then robson walked off after the usual glorious failure with gazza's tears so the press decided that england would in 1992 and 1994 and when taylor did a poor job really they went for him

Taylor probably never got the bounce ever his career needed after that cos he went back to wolves and watford which were bad jobs to take while robson could lwalk out of england with them in a SF and went foreign and became a legend as time went by.

Taylor in fairness was a classic journeyman pro who turned to coaching in the lower reaches and performed as big a miracle as eddie howe at bournmouth in getting watford to the top table. He has some huge success relatively albeit second in league and fa cup finalist but he did repeat the trick at villa.

I don't think he got the credit he deserved for the resurrecting watford a second time while others like FAT SAM got the reputation in this more media driven ear as the lord and saviour of any club he comes to.

In many ways his career was defined by his england time where as at club level he worked minor miracles for teams in lower leagues who did good things in the prem. The press seemed to get more access and then piled more pressure on him at england that they should have done especially due to that ill fated documentary.

All things considered he came out of it all well liked and not smelling of corruption like fat sam or harry redknapp and i suppose he should serve as a lesson to eddie howe... resist the temptations until you are really ready... and don't do documentaries.
