I know he had the mickey ruthlesly taken whilst England manager, but what a job he did at Watford, rip And at Lincoln
Another manager that just didn't have that extra something that makes them world class he did what he did at a time there was no £200m+ annual windfalls to rely on
OF ALL pics designed to humiliate that one sticks out vividly in my mind... regretably it did translate the moment in that moment in time .. I don't think there can be or has been such an appropriate/ unappropriate situation since
They (The Sun) did it again with David James's donkey ears, after he upended Zidane causing a penalty in a game against France - of course conveniently overlooking the fact that it was a horrendous backpass from Gerrard which put James in that impossible situation.......
He wasn't though. His record at club level is pretty good. He was just another victim of the poisoned chalice that is the England job.
He was way out of his depth at England level. The documentary that followed him showed that very clearly. Club level.. did ok.
The "extra something" that Taylor didn't have as England manager was decent players available to him.
That is the most idiotic statement I've read on Not606. So useless that he took Watford from Div.4 to Div.1 in 5 seasons, then from Div.3 to the Premier League in 3 seasons, took Villa back in his first season and then finished runners-up in his first season back at the top level - pretty useless eh? Nice enough? You obviously never met him...
As I have already mentioned your assessment of his career is idiotic - I wonder how much you have achieved in your life?
And you call people idiotic?? 1 GK Chris Woods 14 November 1959 (aged 32) 31 please log in to view this image Sheffield Wednesday 2 DF Keith Curle 14 November 1963 (aged 28) 2 please log in to view this image Manchester City 3 DF Stuart Pearce 24 April 1962 (aged 30) 47 please log in to view this image Nottingham Forest 4 DF Martin Keown 24 July 1966 (aged 25) 6 please log in to view this image Everton 5 DF Des Walker 26 November 1965 (aged 26) 44 please log in to view this image Nottingham Forest 6 DF Mark Wright 1 August 1963 (aged 28) 42 please log in to view this image Liverpool 7 MF David Platt 10 June 1966 (aged 25) 29 please log in to view this image Bari 8 MF Trevor Steven 21 September 1963 (aged 28) 34 please log in to view this image Marseille 9 FW Nigel Clough 19 March 1966 (aged 26) 7 please log in to view this image Nottingham Forest 10 FW Gary Lineker (captain) 30 November 1960 (aged 31) 77 please log in to view this image Tottenham Hotspur 11 MF Andy Sinton 19 March 1966 (aged 26) 4 please log in to view this image Queens Park Rangers 12 MF Carlton Palmer 5 December 1965 (aged 26) 4 please log in to view this image Sheffield Wednesday 13 GK Nigel Martyn 11 August 1966 (aged 25) 2 please log in to view this image Crystal Palace 14 DF Tony Dorigo 31 December 1965 (aged 26) 10 please log in to view this image Leeds United 15 MF Neil Webb 30 July 1963 (aged 28) 24 please log in to view this image Manchester United 16 MF Paul Merson 20 March 1968 (aged 24) 5 please log in to view this image Arsenal 17 FW Alan Smith 21 November 1962 (aged 29) 11 please log in to view this image Arsenal 18 MF Tony Daley 18 October 1967 (aged 24) 5 please log in to view this image Aston Villa 19 MF David Batty 2 December 1968 (aged 23) 8 please log in to view this image Leeds United 20 FW Alan Shearer
The Turnip story was a disgrace - but coming from that newspaper we should not be surprised I always thought that Graham Taylor was a bit like Bobby Robson in that he loved talking about football to anyone
