I recorded it last night, I watched it this morning, The PFA were clueless I thought, They gave poor answers to him, Some of the chants on there were disgusting in my opinion, And you wonder why no player comes out as gay, I don't blame them to be honest, I'd like to see a player come out as gay but I just don't see it happening.
David De Gayer, obviously. Honestly, I think it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation. This isn't going to go away until some players actually do come out, as a lot of people don't view it as homophobia. They think that they're just having a laugh and taking the piss. Who's going to come out in that environment, though?
Serious homophobia died with the last generation. Imo the gay players need to either come out or shut the **** up. Who cares if they're gay ffs? It's all bollox and they need to man up and admit they're gay or keep lying and feeding this nonsense.
We don't know much about homophobia within the game though, to be fair. I doubt any of their agents or managers are pushing them to come out, either.
I don't care if the players are gay, straight, bi, robosexual. Doesn't matter a flip. Be kinda cool actually if one of our own were the first to be brave enough to admit it. Basic statistics would suggest there's someone gay in almost every squad.
The media would be all over the first few like a rash. I reckon that's a bigger concern than something some knuckle dragger in a crowd shouted.
Dead right there Tobes, the stewards and police would be throwing out/arresting scores of homophobes during matches.
Maybe that's ultimately how it needs to pan out, so that over time homophobic chants are deemed to be as completely unacceptable as racist chanting now is, and it therefore goes away. But for that to happen it'll need a high profile player to come out while he's still playing, and that will be one brave man.
Disagree mate...unfortunately their are a minority of ****wits whole like nothing more than to hate others. There are also the those who are ignorant (I don't mean this as an insult btw) rather than hateful. This week the national trust told staff (including volunteers) to wear their specially designed badge and lanyard at a particular stately house which was donated to the government years ago by a gay man. As it is the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of being gay the special lanyard and badge had the national trust logo on a rainbow background. Some staff objected and news outlets got involved and the trust backed off. Personally I would not have bothered making staff wear them cos someone always makes a fuss out of nothing but it is beyond me why anyone would object to wearing the badge and lanyard.
I don't see why any player should say that they're gay. Even the days of coming out, are coming to an end. Nobody that is heterosexual has to announce their sexuality and we are all about equality now.
Gareth Thomas didnt "come out" when he was playing rugby perhaps the saddo should do a documentry on why homophobia is in rugby? Or more to the point he should stop harping on about gays because he hasnt stopped harping on about gays since he retired and confirmed he was a lifter...
Disagree. There are still a lot of football fans who are proud to be Neanderthals. We were on a train with a group of Leyton Orient fans the other day and their behaviour and regard for other passengers was vile. The likes of them would relish the opportunity to abuse an openly gay player. That's not to say that they're homophobic, just that it's ammunition to behave like ****s.
