Ollie invoking recall clauses in January... http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/qpr-darnell-furlong-michael-doughty-swindon-town-recall
That is interesting. Furlong in particular was looking ready to break into the starting 11 from the few times I've seen him play. He looked a bit naive positionally but closer to a modern full back (and therefore a wingback) than anything we currently have. Plus Perch seems to be trying to emulate Diakite so is a liability. I don't remember what Doughty was like as clearly (was he the fairly decent all rounder who at least tried to throw in a few good crosses)?
This is the best news regarding Queens Park Rangers for months! Welcome home & hopefully both actually get to play. We need them! Anyone know if they are cup-tied?
Great news. I never understood why Furlong wasn't recallled earlier as we have struggled at right back for ages. Doughty is the right sort of player to bring fresh legs to our midfield.
Yun Suk-Young was also a battling LWB who had pace, got some good crosses in and was prepared to get stuck in with his challenges (unlike Armand Traore playing a similar role) - perhaps we should have offered him a new contract? I see is available in January after his brief Danish experience. Brøndby IF Signed for Brøndby IF on free transfer on 12 September 2016 a contract for the remainder of the year. On 9 December 2016, Brøndby IF announced, that Yun would leave the club at the start of the new year.[10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yun_Suk-young
I always liked the look of him, but it seems he is lost and wandering if he can't last a season in Denmark and is out of contract. Shame.
From what I've seen of him he is great going forward but struggles defensively, which is presumably why we let him go.
So that puts him on a par with our current LB's, and The "great going forward" would be a plus compred to the others. I do recall matches where he really got stuck in with some crunching challenges.
Purely in terms of footballing, I think Doughty is decent. But I'm not sure about his character. He has a bit of a temper, sometimes seems to seek revenge and also goes in for the occasional wild tackle. Furlong... I think our club would be the best place for him to develop but maybe in the middle of a tough season he should remain firmly as 2nd choice until later, unless he really establishes himself consistently as a sub.
I remember Ollie raving about Doughty in what I think was his final Sky appearance covering a Swindon game.
