He's tweeted to say he's ok after suffering a head injury playing for Atletico Madrid, I'm not going to post the video on here because I find it uncomfortable to watch.
He had emergency surgery on his blood stained highlights. Thankfully he's pulled through without the need for clippers.
It was pretty gnarly. Horrible to watch team mates trying to stop his tongue going down his throat. Giminez looked like he'd seen a ghost.
Looking at the video, I really think that they should teach first aid to players. They're going about it all wrong and throw him from his side where he was safe, onto his back and try to pull out his tongue. Recovery position, guys!
Only replayed it once and it looked pretty bad: Seems to be recovering well, but the treatment break was reminiscent of Fabrice Muamba at the Lane. Not nice.
I think he was out before he hit the ground. He didn't try and protect himself on the way down so with both hits to the head he's quite lucky to be OK.
Look at the bottom of the screen at 00:13 seconds at the medic running on to the pitch making windmills with his arms! The ****! I hope thats not his natural running style.
Agreed. I can see why they tried to roll him over though to stop him swallowing his tongue. But yes basic first aid, checking to see whether he's conscious, checking airway, breathing and circulation and understanding the recovery position should be taught to everybody in my opinion. It was a difficult one to call though, because they needed to make sure he didn't choke on his own tongue, but at the same time he could have had a serious neck injury which could have been catastrophic by moving him.
Maybe I'm naive but I thought they were all taught this the moment they turn professional? I guess with medics at the ready they don't feel the need to teach them.
