Found out yesterday that apparently the Daily Echo are again banned by Saints. This is regarding the way that they reported the tribute (lack of it) for Dean Richards.

Now we all know that Cortese is no chump when it comes to dealing with press. However do you think he acts too rashly towards them? I know the Daily Echo aren't the most brilliant local paper, but still probably the main source of information we can get about saints (through paper form).

I think he acted incorrectly about banning national media (the time when sun threw its toys out of the pram) but maybe its different in Italy, because over here there is lots of press interest?

I think he is the best possible person to be in charge of Saints but maybe a friendlier approach to the media and press might help him/the club somewhat?

For example, before we played Man U, Le Tiss and Benali were on TV and described their *problems* with Cortese on air, and kind of made our club look disrespectful towards ex legends and sort of slagging the Don off.

Anyway, just a thought, in my opinion he's the right man for the job and players wont be sold under him, unless he gets a great fee for the club. He could perhaps be more forgiving towards press though? Might give a better image to our club nationally? or is that irrelevant for us fans? What are your opinions...

PS: Was watching Casino Royale last night and (Le Sheaf) excuse spelling, the bond villain, reminded me slightly of Cortese haha....

Maybe he should buy the bloody paper then he has no worries about what the rag has to say about him or the club. Might as well buy the local radio and bring it back in house.

Overall the Echo's coverage of Saints in shocking. I do like the Sports Pink supplement, with interesting opinion articles, but this weeks still had coverage of last weeks win over Bournemouth. It has no relevance to the current situation, perhaps the focus should have been to the Charlton game coming. As for the national media, the tabloids are a disgrace, and a true scourge for english media. They sensationalise and give misinformation, are lexically poor, and place the egotistic celebrity culture ahead of important world issues, such as persecutions across the globe. People buy them because they are ignorant, or find the whining of that plastic woman called Jordan more interesting and important than rebels fighting for freedom and justice in Libya. They use orphography to sell papers, finding it clever to change words to make a 'witty' headline. Most importantly in relevance to this article, their coverage of football is shocking. The Sun has Karen Brady as a columnist, for example, and such an egotistic, selfish and clueless woman is one of the better writers in the paper's sports coverage! The broadsheets of Britain (for the most part) are much better, but then they are even less concerned with the lower parts of the football pyramid than the tabloids. Basically the modern newspaper has very little to offer Southampton FC, and sadly this has arguably extended even to the local paper. It also reflects how in modern football culture many fans and media outlets deem the Premier League as the only league worth notification. The Don may make an insulated attitude at Southampton, but this will only help us rise above the petty issues of controversy-ravished clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester United, and conduct ourselves in a way that no other English club currently can or is. Long Live the Don!

Long live the Don indeed, I think we need to make it known to Cortese that the fans love him and have branded him 'The Don'. What a legend.

took this from the internet haha: Don means gentleman or nobleman. comes originally from Spanish but has been taken into the Italian vocabulary as well. don is more commonly known as a title given to the head of the mafia family. As in "Don Corleone", known from the godfather trilogy. In Spanish it means Of Noble Origin. "De,Origen,Noble" D,O,N.

The Daily Echo Saints coverage has been patchy for a while now, it has a few good points, but mostly outweighed by the bad, does anyone else get the problem that I have in the multiple pop ups sending my Spyware checker into a frenzy? Sometimes it won't let me use the site at all.

If he carries on like this he will end up being part of a bridge support in the M27. Nasty lot those hacks at the Echo1 <whistle>

The Saints provided a shirt to be auctioned for Dean's charity, wore black armbands at the next away match, and put a piece in the next home programme. I suspect we'd have had a minute's silence/applause if our next match had been at home. Hardly ignored. The Echo were being deliberately provocative. However, if I was the Don I would have ignored it and not encouraged them by paying them any attention.
