Yeah I can see the logic in it. Would be nice to see some U20/U21s rewarded with a senior place.

Can see Chilwell being in the England squad for the World Cup next summer to be fair. I suspect next season will be his real breakthrough.

I'm not suggesting that they don't. But it's not like fellow U20s would necessarily break that bond.

I've been saying for years that one of our biggest problems is the lack of players progressing through the age groups together.

I'm not getting too excited yet.

Tricky for Chilwell, as there are quite a lot of players pushing for that position, though nobody's really grabbed it.
If Rose and Bertrand are both fit, then I'd expect them to get the nod, but that could change.
Gibbs and Shaw might need moves to get back into the mix and Cresswell's making the cut now.
Does look a good prospect, but he'll need to really cement his place in your side first and possibly impress in the U21 Euros, too.

I'm not suggesting he'll start. Merely that he'll be on the plane.

I don't particularly love it when players get called up to the mens team but sit on the bench.

I'd rather we played Rashford in the U20s or U21s in the hope he gets a taste of winning trophies in an England shirt alongside players that would hopefully make the step up with him rather than have him play out of position in the Mens team.

I get that, but I think that even that will be pretty tough, honestly.
It's definitely possible if he has a good season though, especially if some of the others don't.

From our perspective, I'd expect both Onomah and Walker-Peters to be given more exposure to the first team next season.

However they did it, and whatever advantages or disadvantages they may have had, these kids won a World Cup.

They deserve at least a shot at the top level.

    I agree.

My point is we have a horrendous record of not progressing players through the age groups.

Hopefully it's something we've changed and Southgate being the ex u21 boss may help.

    Meltdown.^
I'm bored of your multi-forum Spurs obsession, actually. Your need for the attention of Tottenham fans is both sad and worrying.

I always point to the same (and best imo) example.

Take a look at the Germany and England XI's in the Euro 2009 u21s(?) final and then the sides who played in the SA world cup the next year...
