Charlie is a good lad and, whilst we don't know the full story, he seems genuinely concerned and presenting himself with decorum.

Also hope the cyclist makes a full recovery! Best wishes to all involved.

    Best wishes to all concerned.

On a separate note, I have nothing against cyclists but cyclists who ride at night without any lights are really pissing me off. I see (or nearly don't see) so many lately on busy roads. This has included many deliveroo riders.

    Cyclists, sort it out.:emoticon-0121-angry

I nearly hit a cyclist at night because I had room to come out ahead of the nearest car...suddenly the cars light flickered. It was enough to make me wait....sure enough it was a cyclist with no lights. I would have hit him if he hadn't got between me and the lights. I am a very careful driver....some might say slow...but that cyclist was lucky it was me and not some other driver.

I am a cyclist. I've sorted it out.

I don't: ride through red lights; overtake on the inside; ride at night without lights; act like I own the ****ing road! I do: use cycle ways (thank you Cheshire); stay off main roads; drive my car if it's not safe to cycle (it's not a bloody competition lycra dickheads!).

Too many dickheads on bikes. Hope Charlie's "victim" is fine, but really ....

PS Obviously, apologies to the person if Charlie roared away and flattened him. But sadly, I do encounter complete tossers on bikes on a regular basis.

I'm with you Fran and I'm not tarring all cyclists with the same brush or saying all car drivers are perfect. But this is stupidity and the guilt put on drivers if they hit someone will stay with them for the rest of their lives as well as cyclists putting their own lives at risk.

It's about time someone invented a decent bike light....they are blooming useless....you might as well tie a glow-worm to your handlebars.

I wonder if cycles could have running or flashing lights...moving lights attract more attention than single dim ones competing with car lights.

The ones around here seem to favour blinding white lights which are almost as bad as a car on full beam. Though there are still a few idiots who ride without lights and make it worse for the sensible ones

They do Fran. Most decent lights have that option. Well at least the flashing option.

That reminds me of the LED car lights. ****ing blinding without even being on full beam. Who commissioned that! Really horrible on country roads at night/winter.

With the technology available, it's surprising that lights aren't built into the actual bike frame, and powered by pedalling, as standard.
But then the "add on" sales of lights being sold separately, then stolen, then resold to the victims of theft, would hit profits.

    Such a scummy newspaper.

Terrible to hear though and wish a full and swift recovery.

When I was a kid in the 60s/70s we disappeared for hours (but did have lights on our bikes) When my kids were kids in the 80s/90s there were too many cars so I didn't let them cycle around. I let them wander about but not near the main road. People worried about child molesters then but for every child molested a 1000 were killed on the roads. In some cases it's the drivers fault, in some not. The roads are far more dangerous than any other threat to our family. If you ride a bike, take every precaution. I wouldn't ride a bike on a road - whoevers fault it is- you lose. I had a friend who hit a kid on a bike - not his fault - never drove again - never recovered. 2000 people are still killed on the roads every year (UK) Other ways of being killed are insignificant
