Would you sell Tom Cairney for £20m? Reports in that Villa are interested or is it just more lies in the media? If this is genuinely being offered then I think the club has no option but to sell, don't they? It would have to be done quickly so we could replace him though.
We would need to find and pay, say £20 - 25M for someone as good or better. We should not sell him, he is now part and parcel of a very good team.
Newcastle was probably a genuine toe-in-the-water enquiry but this Villa one, like McLaren with Martin, sounds more a tactic by Bruce to disrupt a rival's season. Apart from anything if Mr Khan took the money he'd lose Jokanovic even quicker than he could bank it.
I think this is just news speculation and there is not a lot in it. There is a clip on the Fulham news where Cairney talks about the Cardiff game and his belief that we can get into the top 6 and stay there. I think there is no coincidence that this has been put up. I think it shows Cairneys future is at Fulham - at least to the end of the season. I also think Cairney benefits in training from Parker. His game this season has progressed massively and if he were to move it would only be to a Premiership club. Just got to get through this January unsettling period and sort out our striker situation.
I think the £20m is to frighten people off. But if they did bid that I'd take it. Cairney has a lot of positives going for him at Fulham, and he has slotted in well and is part of a well oiled midfield. But for me he is not the complete player, his tackling is poor to non existent, and he is so one footed, and he doesn't take responsibility of taking a shot when he can, ie he passes once too often when in good shooting positions. Tom would have to give that Kid his pocket money back.
I definitely wouldn't take it in January. If we don't get promoted, the summer might be a different matter, but only if it's to a Premier League team. I wouldn't sell to another Championship club in any circumstances.
Ros, while I'd love to get a solid CB I don't think we could replace Cairney for £5m. As frustrating as he can be, Cairney is at the heart of why we've been good going forward this season. I wouldn't want to sell him in January for anything short of £20m up front cash.
If people are quoting £20M for Cairney, does that mean you're valuing Dunk at £15M kunye? Good as he may be, I think that would be paying way over the odds.
I feel that if Brighton fail in their premiership bid there will be a re build and to be honest i think they will get at least 15m for him if not more.
