Why are United finding it so hard to buy success compared to Chelsea and City? Has the football landscape changed that much, that it is so much harder to invest heavily in fees and wages to guarantee trophies? I would say City and Chelsea's squads were not any better than United's in 2013 when they started spending?
I think so. Especially in the Premier League. The individual TV money assigned to each club has somewhat levelled the playing field in terms of what clubs can offer players, wage wise etc Also, the Premier league is far more competitive now than when Roman took us over. From 2005 onwards, Man United were our only legitimate rivals, in terms of the Premier League, until City came to the fore under the Sheikh. These days there is us, Arsenal, Man United, City, Spurs, Liverpool, etc, even clubs like Leicester sneaking a league title. The playing field was tipped so much in ours and Man Uniteds favour back in the day. Now its a more even field, and United have lost their greatest asset (SAF), they are feeling the effects.
I'm not a big fan of the " Haves and the Havants " gap since the origin of the Premier League but to Man U's credit ( which kills me to say ) at least they got their " Unfair Advantage" from marketing and such . Since 2000 , " Sugardaddies" from teams like Man City and Chelsea " have spent 4 billion pounds "
That's what I love about English football, predominately the biggest spending teams will always mainly do best but now and again another team will gate crash the party. Being a nation that loves the underdog I think we were all thrilled with Leicesters win.....well nearly all. And long may this prevail we all want our teams to be successful but then we are all realistic about success. I'm not sure how long it'll be before another team crashes through but I'm sure we'll all welcome them.
It took Chelsea a couple of years after the money rolled in to get success. It took City a long time too. Now United are trying but there's already a couple of big spenders ahead of them and they insist on hiring past-it managers. Combine United's current squad with the money they're spending and a half-decent manager and they would be a significant threat at the title. Keep having people like Moyes, LVG, and Mourinho and they'll get nowhere.
Every club buys their success. That's why Arsenal win **** all, because Wenger is tighter than a nuns ****.
How much have Arsenal spent? We were behind Arsenal in terms of squad quality when Roman took over, we had some catching up to do. Difference is, with the money we have spent, we got a return on our investment. Arsenal haven't. and wont whilst you have guys like Kroenke and Gazidis on your board #Arbitrary
Liverpool do alright. Your net spend is low, in recent years, but your player turnover is insane. Especially towards the end of Rafa's tenure, seemed you were switching out half your squad every season. I think the problem is your scouts.
