http://www.bbc.com/sport/formula1/39651421 I don't know if anyone has posted this? But one of the bright Formula 4 prospects seemingly destined for F1 had an horrific crash this week at Donnington pulling out and hit a stationery F4 car. Only 17 and seemingly destined for the very top. Now lost both his legs as a result. It was a horrible accident. Completely not his fault either. Jenson Button has donated £15k to help him in his recovery. Apologies if this has been posted.
That's terrible at any age but 17 is a real tragedy. I remember Johnny Herbert crashing and smashing his legs up and was lucky not to lose them.
A friend from photography club takes pics at Donnington & Oulton Park. He was there at the weekend & mentioned the accident along with another serious one a week or so before when I spoke to him earlier in the week. Horrific & sad.
Alex Zinardi lost both his legs in an Indy-car accident. He still races today. Hope he is an inspiration to the fella.
Racing driver Billy Monger to be 'woken from coma in days' as Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button help raise £350,000 http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/f4-racing-driver-billy-monger-10259577
There's a You Tube clip of his on board camera and it is horrific. Pulls out to overtake two cars and there's a car which had just spun off then back on the track stationery in front of him. Literally no time to react at all. Horrible for the lad, I hope someone like Zinardi can be an inspiration to him. Zinardi has since won gold medals as a Paralympic cyclist - if ever inspiration was needed he need look no further than Zinardi. It will no doubt be a long and very difficult journey coming to terms with this change in his life.
