It is the same situation, maybe Marshall will be ready in two weeks.” “I have made my decision about stating XI. We will have a meeting to tell the players today, after that I will talk about tactics.” “Aston Villa are a very good team. They have good players, a good coach and good staff - it will be a tough test for us.” “But like every team, Aston Villa have both strengths and weaknesses. We will to try to play on their weaknesses.” “I think this season in the Championship, we don’t have a really super favourite like Newcastle last season.” “I think six or seven teams have the same chance (of winning promotion). It’s an interesting situation for everyone.” “Each coach always dreams about new players. If you have 20 good players, you always want more.” “But my message to my players is that I am very happy with my team. I am 100% focussed on the squad I have today. I like this team.” please log in to view this image “It’s my 17th pre-season - it’s been good, but long. The first session we did with the manager was one of the toughest I’ve done.” “The gaffer has been great though. He’s very approachable and his grasp of the English language is incredible.” “Obviously pre-season is about putting the work in. I managed to get a decent amount of minutes under my belt and I feel great.” “Playing at this level is tough - physically and mentally. It’s always a long hard season, but we’re ready for the challenge ahead.”
question is......will the bench have more or less first team starts for City than we did last season (8 i believe, all from Mahoney), it's a horribly low target to aim for but certainly achievable!
Oh defo more, Diomande must have that on his tod. Lenihan has 1, either Campbell or Abel will be on the bench I suspect.
You may be right about one of the strikers, but I wouldn't be totally surprised if Diomande starts to be honest.
ahhh yes, had forgotten about Anne D, was kind of hoping FC and Abel would both start. That's progress then......
I suspect it'll be: McGregor Aina Dawson Hector Clark Grosicki Clucas Stewart Bowen Henriksen Hernandez Campbell Diomande Meyler Mannion Mazuch Lenihan ? That bench is stronger than I thought actually. If Mason and Evandro get fit and nobody gets injured ever then we might be alright...
Lots of mentions of Evandro. Has he even turned up for pre season training? I know he is contracted to us, but is there any evidence that he is present - acknowledging that he is 'injured' at the moment.
Is Meyler back fit? Obvs won't be ready for Villa, but in the absence of a genuine LB option i'd happily see him play RB and Aina at LB rather than risk Lenihan or Clark
Good, good, his performances at RB last season were very good I must say, and certainly would rather have him RB over CM, esp with our squad depth in both positions.
I would go with your team, I'd like to see Clark at left back, but I think he will go for Lenihan on the right and Aina on the left. I really like Hector, I think he is better than Davis was latterly, him and Dawson will make a really good pairing IMO.
I don't really understand football anymore. Chelsea signed Hector and average centre half in the Championship two years ago. Why? He's in his mid 20s now never gonna play for the first team so what's it all about. Same as Kalas.
Judging by al the negative vibes on the City Transfer thread. I am very surprised that we are able to raise a team.
What do we think about strikers? I can see why people are expecting one up front, but we all know Abel can't play on his own up there. I think Campbell has really improved his aerial game since leaving us last time so maybe he could hold it up better up there but it still doesn't seem natural. Looks like yet another year we don't have a proper hold up player.
