Looking likely, apparently Flint wants out but won't force our hand. Which is good, keeps us in a strong position selling wise. Others are saying we're trying to keep Flint and go back to a 3-5-2. Which would be pretty awesome! Just have to wait and see what happens..
Can't say I know anything about Ripley - at such a young age, would he really represent a signing with a view for him to replace/challenge Fielding? We all know Baker and what he can do, so if true that Flint's on his way then he'd be an ideal replacement.
He won Oldhams player of the year last year and gained great reviews. Middlesbrough fans really don't want him gone but looks like we've got him. He's followed us on twitter which pretty much means it's a nailed on thing. 24 years of age with plenty of experience. Just the sort of signing we need. Fielding, as much as I love him, needs replacing...
Perhaps, but is a 24 year old, whose highest level played regularly is at League One, going to represent an improvement? I'm not saying definitely no, I just think that it's asking a lot. For all his faults, Fielding isn't a complete mug, so for a 24 year old to be significantly better, he must be a special talent. If he is then good for us.
But wasn't everyone raving about RoD, Lucic and Geifer and also that one from Cardiff that Fielding always came back and took number one spot again.
Every year 1) we sign a new keeper in the summer 2) fielding starts the season and gets dropped for the new keeper around October 3) fielding replaces that keeper in December 4) we loan in a new keeper in January 5) the new keeper gets a few games in February/ march 6) that keeper gets dropped for fielding again
Twitter! I don't believe it myself. Harry Rednkapp has today said (whilst admitting his interest in Flint) that we got baker for 3m. We're never going to know the true fee, wish the club just announced it.
We want Ripley, they want Flint. But a load of teams want Flint. If he goes Boro I'd expect they would use Ripley as part of the deal, still think we'll sign Ripley regardless of where Flint goes.
I think whether the fee is officially announced or not is part of the agreement between both clubs, so whether someone is embarrassed by the amount, or thinks it shows their hand in terms of available funds, I don't know. I'd be surprised if pretty much everyone in the game wouldn't have a way of finding out if they wanted to.
