Watched the first 70 laps. Interesting rule on blue flags, can be ignored unless you then actually go a lap down, otherwise you are not obliged to move over for the leaders. Pagenaud must have been doing his nut behind Daly
Yeah... I like that. The race wasn't exactly a blinder sadly. Rahal's demolition derby at the end was about the highlight.
I think it's probably to do with the lap times v pit stop time, you can come in from the lead and return after a normal pit-stop a lap down, would be pretty harsh to make you move over to someone you are actually racing for the lead. I don;t really like the blue flags in F1 now, they used to be a bit more lax iirc, and part of the skill was getting past quickly, now everyone slows and jumps out of the way.
Particular on some ovals under green. It'd be super harsh if you weren't able fight to stay on the lead lap after a stop.
I don't think it would be. I'm guessing the "overcut" works in Indy because they have refuelling? If you're able to impede a rival who would've leapfrogged you in clear air you've been given an advantage you've neither gained nor deserved. If you pit from the lead and come out five seconds in front or any amount of time behind you lose the lead, you come out one second in front you've been incredibly lucky.
It wouldn't just be one car though, it'd probably be the whole lead lap, you'd end up lapping yourself!!
5 p.m. your time I think. I gotta go pick up some bbq supplies real quick before it starts. Big race day today. Coca Cola 600 after that.
