This was by all accounts one hell of a team. They won the Third Division South by a record amount of points.
As a youngster I played against Ken Hollymans son, Denis, quite a few times. Stan Richards son, also Stan, and nephews Peter and Brian were also top local players.
Anyone have any stories about these champions?

Before my time (honestly!!<laugh>) but I can remember my dad always talking about Alf Sherwood and Ron Stitfall at the back for City.

They were a solid pairing through the post war years but I can't see Stitfall in that picture so perhaps he was a bit later?

Do you know if Denis Hollyman was a school teacher, bluescull?

I had a Maths teacher called Dennis Hollyman (Caerphilly - mid seventies??)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Stitfall

Made his professional debut for Cardiff in October 1947 which was the season after the photo was taken.

Yes Spark, Stitfall was a little after these guys. He was full back when I started watching City.
Whiffle, at a guess I'd say yes, it was the same Hollyman that taught you. As a reenager he was a wonderful footballer, we all thought he'd turn pro but I can't remember what happened.
Billy Bakers son, Mike, still lives in Ely I believe.

My Dad used to tell me that the left winger in this team, Roy Clarke, played three consecutive matches in three different divisions!
Probably never been done before or since.

That makes sense....If I remember correctly, he tried to introduce football on to the curriculum of a rugby only school (unsuccesfully)
