Let me know of anyone you know who has landed a job in another country on the basis of a qualification in Media Studies.

<laugh> I do find it funny when people call those sort of degrees irrelevant.

I didn't do Media Studies, but I did something that you old farts would probably call pointless.

Funny how my 'irrelevant' and 'pointless' degree has got me a well paid job, eh? Guess it isn't that irrelevant or pointless after all.

My friend teaches English in China. Another has just moved out to Jordan to do the same and one is the editor of a newspaper in Warsaw.

As they needed a degree to get those jobs and the only degree they had was in Media, yeah.

I've got one, I've got a good job.

I suspect its because they don't understand what a degree entails, or what it demonstrates.

It's easy, and lazy, to just tar all students as feckless layabouts who do **** all, especially when you have no idea what's included in the syllabus of these degrees.

On the bright side, these clowns are not in positions of power or influence so make absolutely no difference to society or the job market.

    Hear hear.

Castro you're bang out of order with this diatribe about media studies. My lad studied it and has the job he always wanted as a result, attending sporting events, meeting superstars and getting paid for it.

basically you can get a degree in any subject.. there is no such thing as an easy degree.
most employers just want you to have studied to that level anyhow.

Fair play to all those dedicated enough to study a subject through to degree level with all the additional debt that entails.

Shouldn't be difficult to recognise and praise another's achievements, I tend to think it's part of a larger catchall bitterness towards a specific generation to be honest.

    Gets boring and looks weak.

I am greyer and a bit fatter. Doing a bit better at work. Bit closer to being able to buy a house. Still not happy to buy a Hull City Tigers membership.
