Tom O'Brien said he's a Neptune horse after the race today when asked which race he would likely go for. Has a good chance of placing wherever he ends up.
Does anyone know if these are the likely targets for the festival: Defi du seuil - triumph Bellshill - RSA Are there any other races they could go for?
I'd be surprised to see Defi Du Seuil anywhere other than the Triumph. Bellshill is Willie Mullins and he has always looked a 3 miler, but Black Hercules looked a possible 4 miler last year but ended up winning the JLT over 2 and a half! RSA would look the likely target at this stage but always beware.
Cheers Topclass, pretty much as I thought but as you say have to beware with Mullins..... Was considering having a few quid on each week but probably best to wait for NRNB. Or may change bellshill with cantlow until then
As McManus has plenty of options in the Triumph there is a possibility that Defi Du Seuil could go to the Supreme Novices instead - they did that with Binocular as a 4YO. Some firms have him in the Supreme betting at 12 or 14, Skybet go 6 but are NRNB.
Thanks Oddy, didn't really consider the supreme as was pretty confident he would be going to the triumph. think I'll just wait for NRNB, better to get a run at a shorter price than no run at all!
There has been a lot of chat that the other JP McManus Juvenile Charlie Parcs may run in the Supreme. I was massively taken by this one and was sorely tempted by 10/1 the Triumph! But very hard to know what's going on with their plans.
There are now very valuable Grade 1 4YO Hurdles at Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestowns. McManus will want to win as many of these as possible so at least one of his multitude of 4YO’s (he is incredibly well represented in this division this term) will be swerved away from Cheltenham and instead be aimed at Aintree and/or Punchestowns. Plus there is then, as mentioned, the possibility of one or more being steered in the direction of either the Supreme or the Neptune. I wouldn’t want to back any of his 4YOs for the Triumph, right now, as you will be totally at the mercy of his ‘management’. Don’t for one second think any of the trainers will have any say where the horses run. Binocular running in the Supreme was slightly different as McManus bought Franchoek mid term and was ‘obliged’ to run him in Triumph (went off Evens favourite for the race). Franchoek was trained in the county and his previous owners had backed him at three figured prices much earlier in the season to win the Cheltenham race. A condition of the sale was that if fit he had to run in the Triumph.
Moonracer will win the Supreme (so I hope anyway ) my only real ante post bet got a him at a few different prices! 16's 12's and 8's (I do have a couple of quid on others in other races) but just they have him all to beat!!
Patrick Mullins was all over Black Hercules for the 4 miler last year- he then won over 2m and 2m4f at the festival, pesky little sod!
BEAT THAT- close to making a comeback - will be seen very soon apparently, novice chasing seems the route they are going down!
My prediction- Faugheen to the Champion Hurdle - Annie Power to the Mares double pays 15/1 chuck VVM to the Stayers and the treble pays 125/1
Without blowing my trumpet I've had pretty spectacular success with Festival antepost the last few years but this year I've done as little as I can recall. I must be in the minority this year as it seems forumites have backed numerous runners in one event!!! Some people must have half the Supreme field backed I'm pretty chuffed I've only one race where I've backed more than one in this year! (Neptune by the way, the shrewdies will know )
On another note YORKHILL at 3/1 for the JLT looks the best antepost bet left by a squillion miles. Remember how he laughed at Yanworth in last years Neptune and we see how prominent that one is in the Champion Hurdle betting? Assuming he makes the starting tapes, he goes off 5/4 and wins pulling double (again). EDIT: JLT even!
