Yea - hope those days, when these arsehole EPL clubs think they can 'steal' our players for a pittance, are over ... Rodgers knows their value now so again hopefully tells the parasites to get stuffed!
The deady bears have another bad day at the office yesterday? ah, that explains it http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-target-celtics-kieran-tierney-11020238
One consequence of having a real manager, is the fact it's harder for the board to sell our players. Our manager has ambitions beyond this little backwater. The board accepted this as part of Brendan taking over. For the first time, in my lifetime, we are actually building something, and not dismantling the team. It's hard to see what lies ahead for Scuddish football, but I'd bet my last £ that we'll be OK. It was driving me up the wall watching our best players getting sold constantly. Hopefully transfers in the future will reflect the players ability, and not the league/country he plays in. So by my reckoning young KT is a £75m player Rogic 15m Armstrong 10m Moussa(?) Jozo 15m SS 10m Ntcham looks a big talent (can't believe nobody in Italy bought him) The squad is full of players of value, and along with the great young players coming through, the future really is green and white HH
Your league is too weak to command big sums, no one is going to risk 50m for a player who hasn't played in a decent league.
If that's the case then the scouting set-ups in EPL clubs must be rubbish since the implication is that they cant spot a good player. I don't think you're right though - EPL clubs seem to be constantly 'looking' at our players and must know by now that a top player for Celtic is more than capable of 'starring' in the EPL.
Probably true but since leaving Celtic, Wanyama, Van Dijk and Forster have not done too bad despite not having previously played in a "Decent" league. Wanyama and Forster did all play in the Champions League though, and performed well so I think if average EPL players are being sold for £15-20m then players in our squad who have CL experience should command similar fees. Our Manager and board seem to agree with me.
I didn't say they were crap, just that it's hard to see how good they actually are when playing against mainly championship level opponents (or lower), which makes outlaying 50m+ far too much of a gamble. I remember when the SPL was easily a match for Div1 (the EPL), sadly the money to the top 2 has completely ruined your league (the EPL has a similar problem, but to a lesser extent). It seemed to me that every time a decent young Scots player emerged from someone other than the old firm, either Rangers or Celtic would buy them, stick them in the reserves and there-after they'd never get a look in, their 'potential' stiffled.
I don't think anyone on here is claiming that any of our current players will be fetching sums of £50m+ for us but Rodgers and Lawwell know the value of our players and I would suggest that as well as them demanding more than the pittances paid in the past, the extras involved in a sale (eg sell-on clauses, games played & such like) will bring in sums which better reflect that value when/if a player 'succeeds' with the club which buys him.
That's a bit of a myth. Moreso nowadays, 6 Celtic academy gradutes played Kilmarnock on Saturday, average age of the team was 23.5
Only 23 - would he be worth a £1.5m punt for us? http://ghanasoccernet.com/exclusive...rom-bursaspor-for-top-striker-patrick-twumasi
Hope this is true ... http://sportwitness.co.uk/brendan-rodgers-leaves-country-secure-signing-celtic/
I see that's Ralston on his way out! http://www.scotsman.com/sport/footb...-a-target-for-trio-of-english-clubs-1-4554480
