Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has opened up a new ice cream store in Bromley, south London, with a little help from his ex-Blues team-mates Dennis Wise and Roberto Di Matteo, and friend Andriy Shevchenko.

The Italian playmaker was a huge success during his seven year spell at Stamford Bridge between 1996 and 2003, and has decided to open a Bologna themed ice cream parlour to express his love for gelato.

The concept of 'UNICO' originates from Bologna, the Italian city made famous for its distinctive Medieval structures, and the website states that, 'because of this undying passion for food, and for ice cream in particular, there comes a desire to share all this in London, starting from Bromley.'

UNICO seeks to provide traditional ingredients with no conservatives or artificial flavourings that are consistently prepared fresh throughout the day.

The shop also offers a range of fresh coffee sourced from a store in Bologna, 'which works with extreme care and diligence to provide the best products'.

It is not merely restricted to Bologna, though, with coffee offered from around the world, including South America, India, Africa, and Asia,

The diminutive forward says that his business venture stems from the heart and a love of ice creams.

Speaking to Chelsea Fans Channel the 49-year-old said: ‘We do Gelato, make coffee as well, some hot chocolate and some cakes and a little bit of everything. I am not the only one, only one of the owners.

‘We were fed up with travelling to Bologna every time to have a proper ice cream. It’s cheaper to come here. I’m a real ice cream lover and that’s the main reason I’m here.

The former West Ham and Watford boss was quizzed on his former club's disappointing start to the season and he admitted he was surprised and unable to explain the drop-off from last season, when Jose Mourinho's side eased to the league title.

‘No it hasn’t been good so far,' he said.

They sell a famous cone called the not-so-wise, it is just one small dollop, in a small di matteo sized C.L. cup cone, the zola ice cream base brings the flair and Shev´s 100 and 1000s of shots are well off the mark but gives it a continental touch!

Prices are set to be stupidly high, but it is all bank-rolled by you know who!
