Just been reading threads and general footy sites including the club site. Absolutley everyone is banging on about a special night and other special nights at Anfield. What if they score first? Special night over! So a jinx thread is needed. Add your worst fears and because you have thought it and put it down in black and white it won't happen. If anything can jinx it, it's another Brendan interview. And right on cue.... "I was here for the first Chelsea semi-final, for the 'ghost goal'. For me, it wasn't a goal." Good start. "The crowd will be so important for us but equally we need patience. It is not a game where we need the first five or 10 minutes to be chaotic." No, let's not start lively. That always makes a mess of it. Better to leave it at 0-0 until 70 minutes, then give away a goal, panic and give away another just before the end. Like we seem to so often do under Brendan. "This was never going to be a bolt-of-lightning season. Some people can come into a really mature, strong group of players and take it forward very quickly. Whatever people look at, that was never going to happen here with the size and depth of the group." That's the group Brendan says hasn't got enough depth. Or character. Or mentality. It's lucky for us he wasn't here when it was El Zhar, Degen and Voronin. He'd have shat himself. This is the group which went from knocking on administration's door to two cup finals and wins over top teams in a season. That's just too quick, really. "The squad got to two cup finals last season but it was broken up. Players left." Older players on big wages, who'd sat on the bench for most of the season. Brendan got to replace them. His players have let him down and he's fallen back on the players who were already here. "Initially we lacked goals, defensively we were alright. Obviously we are trying to look to the future in terms of giving the two central defenders an opportunity to form a partnership." What they had before when they were good wasn't a partnership, it was an association, or an acquaintance, or something. Maybe Skrtel's lost his voice since he was voted Player of the Year. Or maybe he wasn't an expert on what Brendan's style actually is so didn't know what he was supposed to be shouting at Agger, who didn't get it, either. Consider the game jinxed.
