PHIL BARDSLEY insists Celtic will reap the rewards from Bolo Zenden – if they can tie up a deal for the former Sunderland midfielder.


Zenden spent last week training with the Bhoys and could be handed a permanent contract at Parkhead after being left without a club following his Sunderland exit at the end of last season.

The former Dutch international has been working as a media pundit in his homeland, with talk of summer moves to Nottingham Forest and QPR coming to nought.

But Black Cats defender Bardsley believes the 35-year-old will be in suitable shape to make an impression in the SPL after turning down a new deal on Wearside for regular first-team football.

Zenden, who won more than 50 international caps, was last with Sunderland Celtic have confirmed that Boudewijn Zenden will not be joining the club on a permanent basis.

A statement on the club's official website said Celtic were "delighted" that the Dutchman had trained with the Scottish Premier League side.

"But both parties have agreed not to take the move further following discussions," the statement continued.

"Everyone at Celtic would like to wish the player their sincere best wishes in his future career."

Former Barcelona, Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Zenden, who won 54 caps for the Netherlands, was most recently with Sunderland.

The 35-year-old left the Black Cats at the end of last season and is currently without a club.

Shame he would have done a good job for them.
 
I would be still open to him coming back here on a playing contract, but certainly on a coaching/playing contract,
