http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/...tion-is-so-bad-he-cant-sit-down-at-half-time? 10/03/2013 West London Sport Harry Redknapp says Bobby Zamoraâs hip condition is so acute the QPR striker cannot sit down at half-time during games. The Rangers boss, who also says Zamora suffered ligament damage when he recently picked up an ankle injury, believes he is a crucial player in the battle to stay up. Redknapp said: âBobby needs a hip operation and has torn an ankle ligament but has played through it. âAt half-time we have to keep him on the move. If he sits down it will seize up. âHe canât get into his car after the game. Itâs a nightmare for him trying to get in.â Zamora played 72 minutes of Saturdayâs 3-1 win against Sunderland â a result which maintained Rangersâ fighting chance of avoiding the drop. And Redknapp is desperate for the former West Ham man to get through the all-important run-in to the season. âHeâs a proper bloke. You want him in your squad,â Redknapp declared. âHeâs good for the team, talks to the boys and is an influence in the dressing room â and you need characters like that.â
Yeh, he also made some remarks about some 'other' players who were supposedly out injured .......... but would be fit the next day and that Zamoras' injury was far greater than the others, yet he was still playing. A nice old dig is what Harry was saying ............... and too right to him. No one likes a bludger, especially not a 'show pony' with a skirt on, who flaps his gums to the media as soon as he has made it onto the field and happens to fluke a goal, once in a blue moon. Wonder who that could be ..................emmmmmm?
Certainly not after 50mins or so. Did fine in the first half and he absolutely holds the ball up better than any QPR player I've seen in a while, possibly since Furlong?? Maybe one of the few things that Hulse was better at too.
Considering Bobby hates football i'm surprised he's still playing despite not being fit. Though Betty has proved a decent understudy
I think that ' hating football' stuff was a bit of journalistic license. Harold loves him - singing his praises over his influence in the dressing room, the fact that he travelled to Southampton when he didn't need to to be with the squad etc etc. It was obvious from before kick off on Saturday he was fired up for it. Perhaps he has realised that this could be his last few games in the prem and is determined to make the most of it. Even if we stay up he faces another big operation in the summer and may not make it back. Contrast Harold's attitude to him and his comments on Adel - see my post on the 'Harry explains Adels absence' thread.
I think you're spot on regarding Harry's attitude to both players. From what I remember Bobby said that he didn't spend every waking minute watching football, that he also had other interests in life and probably would choose to do something rather than sitting watching football. Playing is a different story, as his attitude and commitment demonstrate. He's very important for us at the moment, on the field and in the dressing room.
This is a common misunderstanding with comments being misinterpreted. He doesn't hate football, it's just that he don't waste his spare time on it. Fair enough imo. A proper professional who puts QPR first instead of picking up his wages lying on the treatment table. This is the way he should be viewed imo. Agree with Col also that he isn't fit to play. If you can't make it through 90 minutes then normally you shouldn't be considered starting. But it this case it's obvious that Harry won't trust anyone else (Bothroyd), and it will finally come down to Harry's game management as to when to use the substitutions. Against S'land I believe he got it spot on, he kept Zamora on for as long as he could with both maximising Zamora's contribution and also unleashing Mackie against a tired defense.
You have to admire his commitment but I don't recall any of our significant chances coming directly in relation to BZ's involvement. It just can't be right for a PL team to be relying on a player who can barely walk let alone run. HR needs to find another way. I wonder if we are setting a record for the fewest number of players in a squad who can head a ball?
He lets us get rid of pressure from which we can then build attacks. Without him wed be under siege a lot. I think he set up Remy for that shot that he blazed over.
He did set up Remy for that one. Remembering how well Adel played at Chelsea at least as a false 9, I think Adel could be a great replacement for BZ, especially now he would have Remy, Hoillet and Townsend to play off him, rather than just SWP and Mackie as then.
That might not be such a bad idea! Especially away from home like he did against Chelsea as you say. Have always considered Adel as best when playing at home but your post have just reminded me/made me rethink that stance. Cheers.
Taarabts good at holding the ball up when its pinged in to feet or around chest height, but challenging for high balls hoofed up from our back four and laying them off isn't what he's good at. I think I've seen Adel win 1-2 headers in 3 seasons.
I'd have said the same until the around about the Chelsea game, but not anymore - seen him head it and well a number of times. Ok, perhaps he's not quite as good as a fit Zamora in the air, but he has a far better eye for openings, and the delivery when he's on form. I remenber his sublime strikers finish at West Brom too.
Agree that on the deck in that advanced position he's much more likely to play a key pass (either that or hold onto it too long and lose possession ), but I don't think that the one performance against Chelsea up top is enough to convince me he'd be a better proposition there than Bothroyd. I liked the look of us being more 'direct' against Sunderland, or at least having the option to. I suppose it could work, but not a time to be trying things out atm given our position.
