...a penalty in the 85th minute.

Can anyone else think of a keeper scoring a penalty that isn't in a shootout?

Didn't Chilavert used to take them regularly for club and country. Free kicks too if I recall correctly.

Edit: Yea just checked, 8 international goals and 66 career goals in total. Some decent free kicks too if you check him out on YouTube!

not to talk about Higuita, who could dribble through the field and score a goal in open play...

Butt for Bayern used to take them all the time. I've also seen Zambia play a few times out here and their keeper scored against Uganda in a shoot out in November

One of the best penalties I've seen was scored by Kevin Pressman, bullet to the top corner...

Fear of a counter attack against no goalie if they cock it up?

I've never understood why so many players are round the edge of the area for pens. If one of the defending team just went and stood on the touchline midway in the half it would be a perfect outlet to launch a quick counter from, and they wouldn't be that short for defending any rebounds.
