This month/year marks the 20th anniversary of the start of the Siege of Sarajevo. I was 15 when the siege started and I remember watching TV reports showing live action from the siege ... people being shot in snipers ally, funerals being blow up etc 20 years ago and yet we are still killing people over land, differences in race or religion! Man's inhumanity to man...
I remember when it started too. I was working in Dumbarton for Scottish Power and the girl across from me's holiday got cancelled coz of it
I was pissed off at al quaeda for the twin towers. I was flying out two days later to Cancun. Turned out ok though, the yanks re-opened their airspace. Talked to a few folks in Cancun who were in the air when it happened. They got send to a Canadian airbase where they stayed till the airspace re-opened.
I remember a friend of a friend went over to the old yugoslavia during the conflict with some human rights organisation He made a video 'the massacre in Bosnia and Croatia'. I had a copy and it was horrific Dogs eating the dead, soldiers betting on the sex of a baby in a pregnant woman, then cutting the foetus out to see It literally gave me nightmares horrific
I was 3 or 4 when it started so obviously don't remember it much. All I remember from Yugoslavia was the most horrific knitted jumper my aunt got on holiday It was made from the beards of the local women I was told.
