Just watched The Detectorists xmas special during which one of the geezers found his first hammered which bought back the memories... I was on a club dig at the edge of a field which dropped down steeply to the lane below, I guess the lane was along the path of a dried-up stream. I'd been shown enough hammereds others had dug up but had so far failed to find one myself. As soon as I rubbed off the dirt and saw the face of an Henry III "short cross" penny I felt I had to tell someone. Seeing Pete nearby I ran over to show him what I'd found. He was impressed and pointed out that the coin was "full flan" i.e. it hadn't been clipped. Still probably the best hammered I've found. Please share your memories of your first hammered or any other special find.
In the 80s I used to have a black dinner jacket that I didn't wear very often. putting it on for the first time in over a year, imagine my surprise when I put my hand in the pocket and found a sealed bag containing a wrap of speed and a lump of paki black. That was a special find.
Found a half ounce of resin down the back of my Lazyboy. Its the chair that keeps on giving. A friend of my sister who lives in Spain was out walking on the beach as the sun rose and he found washed up with the tide, massive brown packets of Hash, ****ing 10 kilos of the stuff he found that morning, kinda puts my half ounce into perspective.
