Last night me and my friends were discussing the first first team football match we went to. Mine was at Carrow Road back in 1997 or 1998 against West Brom. All I remember is looking at the scoreboard and that it was 1-1 all at half time! I was wondering if any of you could help me work out the final score, who scored and the starting XI for each team please. I've tried looking it up myself but can't find anything. Also, what was your first first team football match.
Mine also featured WBA.It was Leicester City V WBA in September 1965.My uncle lived in Filbert Street.
mine was Norwich vs Everton in the very early 80s. i have no recollection of the score, but remember getting the train from Yarmouth and sitting in the old South Stand.
City 1 Rotherham 0 Tommy Bryceland (legend) in the 68th minute - October 1967. Still remember the thrill even now and I'm 176 years old !
Norwich 3 Grimsby 2. Birthday treat on the way to getting a half season ticket for Christmas. 1985-86 and the seeds of the great team of the late 80s were being sown
This is one of those things that's always really bugged me, I simply can't remember. All I can recall for sure is that I know I sat in the upper tier of the River End, toward the right hand side. It was somewhere around '87, and I think it might have been against Everton. Wish I could remember!
I can't remember the exact match it was either 1970-71 or 1971-72. Dad took me to nearly all the games in 1971-72 and after we'd won the old 2nd Division title I was totally hooked. I used to wear a yellow and green scarf that Dad had given me which was worn in the 1959 Cup run by him, a hand knitted bobble hat and carry a homemade wooden rattle ! I've still got that scarf and rattle up in the loft with tons of other NCFC memoribilia that I've collected over the years. Talking of which, what gems do others have stored away to hand down to the kids/grandkids ? One of my most precious is a set of individual black and white photos of the 1959 team all personally signed ! ! !
For me it was Feb 1980, against Liverpool, they won 5-3, Fashanu scored the goal of the season. Every game was downhill after that.
KIO - I have Alan Black's (used to play left back) autograph - he was in the buffet on Norwich station after a game against Sheff Utd in which Eddie Colhuquon (their centre half) got sent off for flattening Hugh Curran as I recall - we won 1-0 !
I used to go to school with Steve Grapes' brother (remember him?), his parents used to keep the Unthank Tavern which I believe was later re-named the 'Lillie Langtry'. Anyway, he took my autograph book and gave it to Steve who was a young reserve at the time, he got it signed by the whole squad and I still have that. The're all there, Keelan, Payne, Black, Stringer, Forbes, Briggs, Foggo, Silvester, Cross, Paddon, Anderson, Bone etc. etc.
wow, um, Grandad took me to see gorleston play someone (no idea who) remember the smell of pies and cigarette smoke like it was yesterday!
A fascinating 0-0 1975-1976 against Derby, only went to one other game as a 7 year old that season, a 1-0 victory against the binners, Stood on a crate in the riverend.
Oh by the way that was the season that QPR only lost out on winning the title by one point to Liverpool that season and guess who beat the lovely QPR 3-2 with three games to go. That may explain the bitterness some of the old fellas harbour towards us
O dear O dear... My 1st game was proberbly one of my most memorable for all the wrong reasons 1p5wich 5-0 Norwich What a shambolick performance, i think mathie scored a hat-trick and petta got 2..
My first was at Highbury, Arsenal 1 - 2 NCFC. Our last away match of 1986/7. I think we finished 4th, under Ken Brown, and would have qualified for Europe but for the scousers. A nice - if belated way to start my Canary connection. (My old man played cricket, so as kids, that was all we knew)
