As stand up comedy seems to be undergoing a bit of a renaissance here in Blighty, I was interested to see who your favourite comedian (and joke) is. We have a real good spread of posters, so should get a nice cross section of comedy! Here's my entry (it's about racsim and other issues in football), from the hillarious Stuart Lee. It's quite contraversial and contains use of the N word, so you have been warned:
Jasper Carrott and his routine when Birmingham went to Old Trafford in the 70s still amuses me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eedH28a4Fus
Good question but a difficult one I'm a big fan of Bill Hicks and George Carlin stand up wise that's more based on their subject matter because their against conservative run of the mill American values. Larry David is a personal hero of mine Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of my favourite TV shows of all time if you haven't seen it watch it. Our country has the best sense of humour though.
Russel Kane - Made me laugh so much at a gig I was crying from story after story. Afterwards my sides actually hurt from laughing so much. When he gets going it is just relentless. I love his 'mum pretending not to know how to work a PC' routine towards the end of this clip.
Bill Hicks without a doubt... So much material, but try this...
It's got to be Tim Minchin for me! (Be warned some contain some very rude words) Three of my favourites. Although he's Irish I love Dylan Moran. And to choose one routine is impossible, largely because his material is incredibly surreal. Seen him live twice now.
What's this guy's Not606 username? You Norfolk bors...
I do love some of the old comedians. Spike Milligan and the like, George carlin was revolutionary. Currently Tim Minchin and Jim Jefferies. Check jim out he's awesome although rather crude.
The 'Minchin' is my missus' favourite too. Amazing talent. Her favourite is this one - not sure what it's telling me!!!
I came on this thread to post him, but obviously got beaten to it! I particularly like his stuff on evolution, but that's probably the scientist in me.
Bill Hicks and Stewart Lee are the two greatest comedians of my lifetime, sadly with Bill it wasn't for long enough I could listen to those guys all day long, on occasion I actually have. Sadly never got to see Bill but I've seen Stewart Lee a few times, the way he deconstructs his routine is nothing short of genius, simply in a class of his own. I got a copy of his book signed when I saw him last year, definitely a recommended read This is one of my favourites of his
He seems like a clever guy, but unfortunately he's not really doing comedy at the moment, he's doing Jesus Christ Superstar. Well worth seeing his comedy if anyone hasn't already!
Another guy that had me in stitches in his live show was Rhod Gilbert. Great interaction with the audience too after his show had finished.
