BBC are asking fans for their magic FA Cup moment. So what is your's? Here is mine. It was my first ever FA Cup match in January of 1951. The fourth round at Ashton Gate against Brighton & Hove Albion. Both teams from Division Three (South) City in their normal red shirts and white shorts and Brighton in a change strip of Yellow and Green stripes and white shorts. I did not understand why they needed to change colours from blue and white stripes. I was pressed up against the railings behind the goal at the covered end. The only thing I remember from the whole ninety minutes is the goal that won the game. It was scored from a penalty by Don Clark. Yes the Don Clark who died just a few weeks ago aged over 90. His son Brian later played with distinction for City. The match is not my most memorable FA Cup of my lifetime supporting City. But it is my first FA Cup memory.
No contest- 1972- Leeds, champions and todays Chelsea, held at home by us and then going up there for the replay. played at 2.30pm in the afternoon midweek as the miners were striking and they couldn't guarantee that the floodlights would be on- a 1-0 win for us and a home tie then against Liverpool
Same here, was a fantastic victory & a day never to be forgotten...and this was in the days when teams played their strongest side, Leeds where at full strength & unbeaten in Division One (prem.) at the time, they where a formidable team. Probably City's greatest ever victory & I was there!
Leeds away that I also went to during the 3 day week hence the afternoon kick off due to power cuts in the evenings, but wasn't it '74 ?
Angelicnumber16 is right. It was 1974, somehow really thought it was 72 for some reason. I checked and came across this report on the game. A good report and brings back the memories http://www.mightyleeds.co.uk/matches/19740219.htm
Liverpool away, fantastic night pissed out my head, my brother getting arrested for chucking a sausage roll at me. Bailing the prick out wasn't fun though
Some brilliant B&W photos (and brilliant memories) from both games on that link which gdknac kindly posted Them were the days Are we about to enter another successful period in the clubs history I wonder....
At Ashton Gate, we were all over Liverpool. I was in the enclosure at the bottom of the Williams, when the lower half was all standing. "Razor" Rudock was giving the fans some stick during the warm up and during the game, all good fun of course, just over enthusiastic laughing mostly when we had a dig at him. I can't remember exactly what happened, he may have disputed a throw in or something, but it was directly in front of me.....I was a gobby 20 odd year old then lol....so I bellowed out "Your not laughing now are you Rudock you tw@t" (or something like that). He then walked towards the railings to retrieve the ball and completely and utterly destroyed me with the most evil, scary stare I have ever seen. I honestly thought he was going to drag me through the bars and eat me or something. Suffice to say, I was fairly quiet after!
Martyn Hirst scoring at Eastville as we scored two late goals to come from behind to beat NLBR, who were in a higher division than us at the time
1978 Third Round Bristol Rovers 2 - 2 Ipswich Town We scored a last gasp equalizer to take the tie to a replay which we won on our way to winning the Cup. I remember the journey down as there was a petrol strike at the time and there was thick snow. The game should have been called off but hey it was the 1970s and we didn't worry about all this health & safety nonsense in those days!
Murrays wonder strike against Middleborough to equalise. Or coming back from being 3:1 down v Coventry.
