Posted something similar in general by mistake. But it would be good to get Chelsea fans opinions. What are your hopes for the second coming? For example mine are: Three year stay One or even two top trophies (prem or CL) A couple of Cups Title challenge every season: 80 points plus a season And hopefully the promotion of some of loan players into the first team.
Relegation, zero points against Spurs and being fired next May Your OP has expectations and hopes in different places. My post comes under the hopes bit.
I'd expect our patchy league form to improve. I hope he provides some stabiliy, unites the club, brings through some of the promissing young talent and ideally pick up another european cup and/or PL title in the next 3!!
Agree can't really expect a European cup as it is subject to so many factors. But a Prem or maybe even two and a couple of good runs in the European cup wouldn't fantastic
I reckon a lot of what Mourinho achieves will be more down to how Moyes and Pellegrini perform at Utd and City. You know Mourinho will pick up 80+ points a season and have you doing well in the cups, so if Utd and City falter you'll be winning leagues and cups. But if Moyes and Pellegrini hit the ground running then it will be a lot more competitive, and if either of them gets the best out of their respective squads then even Mourinho will struggle to match them in the league, although the cups will still be up for grabs based on who can get the best out of their team on the day. That's probably the area where Mourinho will shine.
Assuming he stays for 3 seasons I would hope to be serious PL contenders each season At least 1 CL semi final or better 1 FA cup Trophy Reunite the club and make us bloody hard to beat Would be nice if he brings on some of our young talent
Or conversely if Mourinho makes the necessary additions, and gets the best of our squad, then Pellegrini and Moyes will struggle to match Mourinho. The area where Mourinho will shine is in the league - if he does at all.
I expect that we will win the league next year with the addition of a quality striker and a tough centre mid (De Rossi has been mooted) We have the best attacking midfield in the league Moyes may be a good manager but the United players could feel a comedown from Fergie leaving, at least for the first year anyway Pellgrini will take time to settle and to say that he will be the big spender and win is ridiculous as it took Mourinho to get the best from the Madrid squad and overhaul Barca Arsenal are a very dark horse if Wenger finally strengthens without weakening
I have no expectations at all. But I do believe Jose could win the CL if we can start to get to grips with Bayern, who IMO, will be the biggest threat in Europe for the next 3-4 years. I think Swarbs has got it spot on. For me, a lot will depend on how quickly Moyes and Pellegrini adapt to their new clubs. This isn't a new club for Jose, he gets the ethos and will walk in with the backing of the fans and even the media from day one. Pellegrini and Moyes to a lesser extent won't have that, they have plenty to prove. One thing I do believe though is the league is a lot weaker than when Jose first came in. None of these could hold a candle to Arsenal's Invincibles, the midtable teams were much better as well IMO. This means that the games against City and United are going to become more pivotal than ever before because fewer points will be dropped. It may take 90+ points to win the league given how uncompetitive it's likely to be. 4/12 against the Manchester clubs is a poor return, it'll have to be double that if were to have any realistic chance of finishing above the Manchester clubs.
Throw in 1/6 QPR, 1/6 Southampton, 3/3 Newcasle, we could have been so much better. Hoping Jose will get us back to where we were a few years ago and be a little more difficult to beat.
Jose will teach them how to defend or buy some that do, and then, if needs, and I don't think it will, how to attack. If we are defending correctly then that has a knock on effect to both midfield and forwards. Creating from the defence is what all successful teams are able to do. Nullify the oppositions threat and reap the rewards of our attacking midfield. Simples. Oh and buy a decent striker now that Falcao is gone dunno who we will get, sure thing is, if we stick with Torres and Ba we be fooked.
Jose will galvanise the squad and the fans, and Moyes and Pelligrini are unknown quantities in that. This will be advantage enough, combined with a couple of departures and new signings to make his mark and we'll be challenging.
I sincerely hope you are right mate, second honeymoon though, just never know what you are going to get.
So do I. Madrid is a cauldron, he's taken Porto, us and Inter to new levels entirely, and on that basis I have very confidence he can do it again.
They say its never the same, second time around! I think this will be different if he's given the opportunity to upgrade the squad in the right way!
mid table clubs were a joke in mid 00s and man utd were weak then and arsenal were on the way down so mourinho came in at a lucky time.
